2008 Revisited

Dec 31, 2008 09:31

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?

Was the boss. Wrote grants on my own. Added on two new clinics.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't remember making one for last year. New Years is always a bit of a chore holiday for me. I never have a party to go to, but there's always this feeling of missing out on something, even though the ones where I went to parties weren't particularly fun or memorable.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Angie, my sister in law did. I got a new nephew.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

Just stayed in the USA.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?

A snowblower. More energy. More gumption.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

March 2008, because that's when I got my promotion. August 2008 because we bought our first house.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Getting the promotion, buying a house. Fixing the bathtub drain and fixing the toilet so that you didn't have to jiggle the handle every time you flushed.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I didn't get to see my friends very much at all from home. And I did a terrible (just terrible) job of making friends in Wausau.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Thankfully, not really.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

The house. A new comfortable couch.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Jennie from TPAN, who managed to survive breast cancer at an age where most women are just trying to figure out what shoes to buy and where to bump into their next crush.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Former employees.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Rent and new house. The house really eats up your extra time and money. But its worth it. I love the house. Love.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Getting a new house. I was so excited to close, but then the lady wasn't ready and we had to wait several hours to go there. It didn't really feel like ours at first and it didn't settle in until much later.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

That I Kissed a Girl song, or anything from Vampire Weekend.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Possibly sadder. I can't say.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter probably. I haven't been on a scale in a long time though.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

I wish I had seen more of my friends. I wish I had shopped for better work clothes. I wish I had painted my office in my house. I suspect that will have to wait until next summer, when we can have the windows open again.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Waiting, stressing about things I can't change, and people I don't like.

20. How did you spend Christmas Eve?

I went home to Cleveland and spent time with my parents, my sister and brother-in-law and my 2-year-old nephew. He is adorable. We watched Veronica Mars, ate so many cookies, and played Tomb Raider Anniversary.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?

I remained in love with my husband of 3 years. We've been together now for eight.

23. How many one-night stands?

Zero. Being married kinda puts the kibosh on one nighters.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Veronica Mars. 30 Rock. South Park this season was very good. Project Runway and Top Chef.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Oh yes. Several in fact. I wish I could be more forgiving.

26. What was the best book you read?

I'm in the middle of three books right now. I can't remember the exact titles of any of them.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog.

28. What did you want and get?

I wanted a good house with lots of trees, and I got it. I wanted a nice couch that had a chaise lounge arm and would be able to withstand the kitty's. And it's super comfortable too. We fall asleep on it regularly.

29. What did you want and not get?

I went to TJ Maxx last weekend to get new towels, because our towels are old and ragged and have pulls in them. They were expensive at TJ Maxx, weirdly. Also, they seemed to be the soft towels that don't actually dry anything. You know those kind? I hate those.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Wasn't a great year for movies. The second Hellboy I liked. Ironman was good. Eh.

31. What did you do on your birthday?

My parents visited our new house. On the actual day, we ate pizza and played Mexican train. We celebrated it the next day with a nice dinner out and we watched Rosemary's Baby.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

The ability to eat as much as I wanted, without ever getting fatter.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?

Whatever was clean and in my closet. Sometimes forgoing the first qualification.

34. What kept you sane?

Robbie, the ability to get substandard sushi in Wausau, visits and trips with my Mom and Dad, video games, knitting and spinning.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Barack Obama. He's so charismatic! I also continue to fancy Jon Stewart.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

The election. Prop 8.

37. Who did you miss?

My nephew. My family. My friends that I no longer see anymore.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

We got some really great new employees at work. Does that count or does that make me really pathetic?

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.

If you're open to it, the universe has a way of working things out.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

I hate this one. So I think I'm just not going to do it.
