Baking

I always wanted to try noodle kugel, and I recently found a very easy recipe at one of my favorite cooking sites Smitten Kitchen.

Normally, I shy away from having full-fat, calorie laden things around my house for very long, so I decided to make it, try it out, and then bring it to work with me. This kind of recipe was no exception with two sticks of butter, full fat cottage cheese, noodles, and sugar in it. It is a carb monster and weighs several pounds.

It turned out beautifully though, with a the cottage cheese taste and crunchy top. It is rich, so I had two pieces, let my husband have some, and then I brought it to work this afternoon. I highly recommend milk with it, since you need something to cut the sweetness. If I made it again, I would go with the recommended 1.5 cups sugar instead of 2.

Well, apparently Northern Wisconsin folks shy away from anything they're not familiar with. The thought of a sweet noodle dish seemed to creep out a few of them to the point of shuddering. They kept asking what it was, and I kept saying that it was like a cheese danish with noodles, and that it is traditionally a side dish accompanying Jewish holiday meals. No one has touched it though, and I got to say that it's beginning to hurt my feelings. I hope that by the end of the day, someone will have at least tried it.
