Greetings from Baroness Shaylan MacNeil of Wandering Feet!
I have been offered a place in the Order of the Pelican. The Ceremony will be at Grand Court on Saturday of Estrella War. However, I know a great many people who will be unable to attend. I would hope that they would be able to be a part of this anyway!
This is not a vigil. I am requesting something far greater and dearer to my heart.
I want the gift of your words and thoughts to put into a binder.
When: Thursday Feb. 11 of Estrella War
1pm till 5pm
Where: Tir Ysgithr Baronial Tent, Kingdom of Atenveldt
This will be facing the battlefield and south (downhill) of main road in Atenveldt camping.
What: Pelican Paper Party…
I want your words. I want to come home from an event and instead of having post-war blues, I want to be able to open up my binder and find words which make me smile, take heart or clear my head. When I find that someone else in this society who I adore has passed on beyond the reach of my hands and my voice, I want to find words which comfort and give hope. When I am frustrated or tired of the plans and egos of others, I wish to find words which inspire or redirect my path.
Please, bring me your words… or send them to me via electronic communication, mail, hand delivery through others… Stop me at war and hand them to me, send them to me after the event… Come to Aten Royal and leave them with my campmates.
Tell me why you do what you love in the SCA. Stories about yourself, us or others that you think are funny or inspirational. Why or how you got started in the SCA, that aspect of the SCA you love most. Give me quotes, advice, suggestions, commentary, silly snippets, recipes, poems, random lyrics or whole songs… anything you think I need for the future - for me to put in my pelican book.
I will be bringing paper and offering a variety of supplies to capture your thoughts and give words the shapes which last beyond breath. Crayons, colored pencils, makers, pen & ink - I do not care how you choose to gift me with your words. The pages must fit inside standard 8.5x11 page protectors. (So if you’re really creative and want to take big paper and fold it to make double sided - feel free) If you don’t feel that your words need to be adorned and want them to be simple text, that’s ok. If you want to draw balloons and purple horseshoes or put the words around coloring book pictures, that’s welcome too. I may even provide some coloring pages for those so minded. Creative or simple, I do not have a preference, I simply want your words, your thoughts, your linguistic gifts committed to paper.
There will be some food and limited drink provided.
