Deleted Scene: Purvis Resigns

Sep 15, 2009 23:56

Here's the scene of Purvis going to Hoover and resigning, which hopefully was filmed and will appear later in either a 'deleted scenes' dvd special feature or in the Director's Cut of the movie (which Michael Mann *loves* to do):

This scene should NOT have been cut from the original film!!! I think it sounds AMAZING.

Thanks for sharing this -- it rocks!

I just hope they actually filmed it. I love that Hoover kept the death mask, which is actually true. He also kept the cigar, spectacles and gun, but he displayed them in a case outside his office.

I just want to see Melvin's face looking at that death mask!

*ding, ding, ding*

Slash bells going off! ;)

It's a crying shame that if this was filmed, it was never added to the final cut. You could have still kept the scene of Winstead visiting Billie, and then cut to Mel in Hoover's office. Stating his belief that Johnny was no punk or hoodlum...that's gold!

They could have still kept the end lines of Mel committing suicide and Billie's release. How much of an impact could that one scene have had? I would have loved to have seen Christian play this, especially as he looked at the death mask. We saw how he nearly froze every time he looked upon dead men, and now this mask of John Dillinger?

ARGH!!!! Could have been an even BETTER ending!

*my movie canon now* ;)

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, a couple of things. When I saw the subject title I thought it was the title of a new fic and I was like 'oooooo, interesting!' before I realised my error.

Then when reading the scene I mistook 'who Hoover came to despise' as 'who Hoover came to desire' lol! Man, it's been a long day at work! (that's my excuse, anyway)

I am purposely not getting my hopes up that this was filmed so I'm not too disappointed if it wasn't, but I can't help imagining Bale and Crudup in this scene; all stiff postures and strained demeanours. Then after Purvis walks out, Hoover carries on writing/reading/whatever at his desk for a long beat before finally lifting his eyes towards the closed door, his expression undoubtedly troubled and slightly lost. *flails*
