It sounds to me that this guy was needlessly attacking the press to drum up support for whatever agenda he was pushing (usually agendas involving some sort of big business and investments). It's a sneaky politician's trick, and it's the same kind of tactic Republicans use when they call the press "un-American" or "Liberal Jew-Run". Except, you know, on a smaller scale...

No, I guess that could have been his reasons... but I'm pretty sure he actually thought he could get away with threatening the media. I work in a small town, so I'm sure a lot of the past reporters let the politicians control them.

I left this part out of my description, but after his attack, he kindof looked around at the other councillors like: I showed him.

Atta boy Dan...way to take that dude to school.

You've done us all proud...journalists need to be able to stand up for themselves, and you took the opportunity to do so. Well done.

Thanks man, I appreciate the support.

It's pretty scary working for a small paper though. I'm constantly discovering new ground for myself. I don't have an editor with a lot of experience that can kindof lead me to safe ground and I don't have a legal team to back me up if I make a mistake.

I just have my own knowledge of the profession, ethics and what I hope to accomplish.
