Fernando Pessoa:
He’s considered the best Portuguese poet, among with Camões. I agree, especially if you take the word “Portuguese” here as meaning “from Portugal”, and not “of the Portuguese language”.
I’m also a fan of the Portuguese (also from Portugal) poet Mário de Sá-Carneiro, who was a friend of Fernando Pessoa. (I ship FP/MSC, a tragic pairing, since MSC committed suicide and perhaps FP could have prevented it...)
I have already posted some translations of Fernando Pessoa’s poems (not mine; by other translators) on my LJ:
Tobacco Shop (Tabacaria),
here.
Poem in a Straight Line (Poema em Linha reta)
here.
Portuguese Sea (Mar Português),
here.
And Pessoa wrote poems in English, too. One of them is a sad, poignant Hadrian/Antinous poem, which you can read
here.
