So, I'm not good at languages, mostly it's something to focus on for distraction, I don't worry too much. But earlier this week there was a moment where maybe I turned from "wow am I bad at this" to "probably I am going to hell for this" - the phrase "it is clean now" popped up in the flashcards, "Xozir u toza" and it sounds (to my ears) like "hoser or tosser"* and on the one hand yeah this is EXACTLY how lessons stick, but on the other hand... dammit, no.

I cannot express the relief I felt when I stumbled on a webpage for Uzbek speakers learning English, that's essentially "How do to know This or That" with the opposite problem, that we only have the two words & they have like ...six? that I know of at this early time. So far we're at plain old This & That, and This Here & That There, and This One & These Many (& a There's None?) ...but for all my confusion, there is comfort that there's some confusion going the other way, too.

Probably I didn't figure out most English grammar until after having learned the Spanish equivalent & coming back? I can still get cases & tenses switched around & mixed? but at least now I know how to sort it. Some of my early writings - are we coming or going and is this past present or future?! or some omniscient weird, in that I know what the whole story should be, just can’t get it all out at once...

The textbook I didn't know I was learning from...

* "hoser or tosser" - Hoser is Canadian English slang for the loser of a hockey game, the team responsible for hosing the ice-rink down with a spray of water after the match. Tosser is British English slang for masturbator.
