The cats decided to start disco-dancing on my face around dawn this morning, aroused by my restlessness in bed to start their harassment much earlier than usual. For the most part I succeeded in ignoring them until the appointed hour, but the sleep deprivation is something I am feeling right now. Normally my deepest sleep of the night is in the last few hours before the alarm goes off, and the furry vampires stole that from me.
I had the most amazing dream last night. I stood outside staring up at the early night time sky, with still a hint of grey on the western horizon. Suddenly a massive swarm of lights ascended from the west, round lights with a brighter point at the center - hundreds, thousands of them. They moved from west to east and back again, swirling around each other in complicated dances that my eye could barely grasp. Suddenly a shower of meteors started above them, hundreds of streaks moving across the sky. The effect was utterly magical. I stood there in awe, and disbelief. Then all the lights descended from the night sky, and I stood there in a cool breeze, missing what had disappeared.
It was one of the stranger dreams of my life. Since I subscribe to the notion that dreams are part of the digestive process of the brain (ordering the day's events), I am at an utter loss to explain this one. There was certainly nothing so magical in my day yesterday. Perhaps the old neurons decided to put on a show for me, just to perk me up. I will say that the crystal clear day we are enjoying in New York only adds to the good feeling I was left by this dream. I feel energized.
Here's hoping that Wednesday is being good to you.
