On the morning of September 4, as I whistled the "Raindrops" from Children of the Sky on my way to the swim test, someone I passed remarked that they thought they recognized part of the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 9th.
As effective as this still is at scaring the living daylights out of me, I hope people always continue pointing these things out when they notice... because I never know when it might turn out not to be a false alarm.
In this case, I could breathe a sigh of relief. Beethoven's composition and mine are quite different pieces, but I could see easily how someone unfamiliar to them might confuse the two just as someone might confuse two patriotic marches... or two cartoon theme songs.
In a somewhat related vein, I need to find out why everybody keeps telling me that "Wanderer" sounds distinctly Irish. Is some fraction of it actually an Irish song that I didn't know I knew? Or is it merely some little stylistic detail (like the chords around measures 12 and 13) that makes it feel Irish in the same way that babblings with a high frequency of "sch" sounds feel German?
