A Clean Start

The Doctor pressed the 'mode' button on his watch until it flashed “Earth: London.” A number of screens were presented to him. The time, date, and the price of his favorite crisps at the corner store near Jackie's flat were among them. He smiled at the date and time, but grimaced at the last screen. He'd have to introduce the sonic screwdriver to an ATM once more.

“Rose,” he called through the TARDIS. “Could you come here for a tick?”

“Yeah!” The answer sounded far off as it echoed through the corridors, but the Doctor knew she'd not be long. Rose preferred to stay as close to him as she could without looking too obvious. The first time she'd decided to explore the TARDIS she'd found a hungry lion. Needless to say, Rose never ventured through the ship on her own. A shriek sounded. “My God, Doctor! Don't you ever do laundry?” The Doctor laughed. He thought it was cute when she showed a knack for domestics.

A door slammed somewhere in the TARDIS. The Doctor assumed it was Rose coming to give him a talking to about his occasional lack of personal hygiene and respect for his own personal effects. He was right.

“Really, Doctor, sometimes I can't believe you!” Rose said with disgust as she walked up the corridor toward the Doctor. A laundry basket teetered on her hip. “Have you smelled this? No, how can you not smell this?” Rose reached him and waggled a sock in his face. When the Doctor didn't reply to her, she lowered her hand and let out a defeated sigh. “I'm doing it again, aren't I?”

The Doctor nodded, took advantage of her speechlessness to press his lips to hers. Rose was taken aback, and didn't respond through her shock. The Doctor smiled against the kiss and said, “Happy New Year.”
