Well, there is one problem less in Ankh-Morpork now. One less idiot to come bothering Assassins, too ( Read more... )

Hah - poor bored Arthur! I hope you're at least healing well. And that place sounds like a pretty nice place for a holiday, in fact. If you don't mind vampires, that is.

You DON'T mind vampires, do you?

I'm healing fairly well, yes. Slowly, but that's to be expected with fractures in difficult places like hands. And Sacramante is beautiful. Very beautiful.

I don't mind vampires, no. Gods, if he only knew how much I don't mind vampires... actually, he'd probably be a bit weirded out by the whole thing.

Beautiful, is it, eh? Well, I know Beth's paintings. They're pretty amazing. You should see the portrait he painted of Chids. And now imagine a whole town full of that. Well, not quite THAT. I'm sure they don't have anybody near as pretty as Chids to paint there. But I might be biased. Heh, I probably am.

Glad you enjoyed it there. So you're not angry at us for bundling you off there any more?

If you were sensible, you'd stay till all your fractures are healed. You sure deserve rest and recuperation. But knowing you, you won't take it.

Oriel is prettier than Chidder. Though I am most definitely biased.

No, I'm not angry. I stopped being angry fairly soon after I woke up. Didn't stop me from trying to get away, but Miss Sarim caught me fairly quickly. It was rather embarrassing, really.

Um. I am staying until I'm healed. It's not exactly a good look, one of the higher-ups being injured. Gods know it won't inspire confidence in the students if I show up with a casted hand.

Heh - must have been fun. Arthur caught by a vampire lady. Oops. Tell me about this Miss Sarim, eh? That must be Gimel's friend Hadith? What's she like?

Staying there is sensible. So very unlike you. Well, everybody grows up and gets sensible. Hey, people call Chids and me "Professor" now! And we've been together for half a year. Pretty amazingly grown-up.

I think Gimel's gone already to get you, though. So you'll, erm, have to tell her when she gets there. Take her to the theatre or something, why don't you? To mellow her up for having flown all the way for nothing. Beth says Sacramantan theatre is pretty amazing. People are really so addicted to it, he told me.

Is it true that they allow women on stage there?

And as we're talking now: care to tell me about the real reason for being so sensible all of a sudden? Miss Sarim? Somebody else? Art? A sudden addiction to theatre? The desire to edificeer up the Bale Tower when you're healed (Gimel mentioned that), climbing where no assassin has climbed before?

Yes, she's Miss Metatronim's friend. And no, it wasn't particularly fun. It was annoying, to tell the truth. I'm really not used to being watched all the time.

I'll talk to Miss Metatronim, yes. If I have to I'll use what Oriel called my "puppy eyes". I don't want to leave him before I have to. And yes, they have women on the stage here. It's really not as radical as the theatricals in Ankh-Morpork make it out to be.

Perhaps if I avoid answering that last question, he'll forget he asked... I don't quite know how to explain, and I don't really want to lie to him...

Huh - not that radical? Do tell! What are these actresses like? Anything near as good as Tomjon? It so sounds strange to me. Women playing women. Makes sense, I think. I must ask Tomjon again what the reason was for doing it differently, here.

But you've stopped bein annoyed now, have you? So, tell me, what made you stop! I so would bet that you haven't simply come to your senses. Spill! What is it about Sacramante? Actresses? Vampires? Paintings? People almost as pretty as Chiddy?

They're very good, on the whole. And really they're not that different to male actors, except, well, female. And it's a whole lot easier to get absorbed in the play when the women actually look like women and not boys wearing dresses.

I've just stopped being angry about it, that's all.

Stopped being angry. How sensible of you. Again. This is Arthur Is Sensible Day, eh? Goodbye stubbornness. I hope the effect lasts.

So, what's the best thing about Sacramante, then? You think I'll let you off the hook? Think again, mate.

Don't count on it, Tepp. Just because I'm being sensible doesn't mean I can't still be stubborn.

The best thing? Apart from Oriel? I don't know, to tell you the truth. It's very beautiful, and the people are different but quite charming in their way. They love art and theatre, and pretty things and people.

You're not allowed to. Being stubborn just for the underworld of it is not sensible.

The people, huh? Must be amazing. I mean, I just know Gimel and Beth. They say they're unusual, but really. A whole town full of Gimels and Beths. Variations in all colours and genders. Erm. All colours and both genders, probably. And the humans - what are the humans like?

You're staying at Gimel's friend's, Hadith's, aren't you? What art does she do?

I'm not stubborn for no reason, Teppic.

The humans - are rather like the vampires, really. They have an interesting relationship. A very interesting, very nice relationship...

Um. Actually, I'm not staying with Miss Sarim anymore, I'm staying with a friend of hers. She's an actress, and apparently needed to be alone to work on some new project.

pteppicymon September 28 2004, 06:50:29 UTC
Oh, Beth mentioned the special relationship. Art-dealing, and voluntary non-lethal blood-drinking. Beth didn't talk much about it, but I think they like it. From what he said. The humans, I mean. Have they talked to you about that? Odd customs, huh? But then, they probably just show you the bright side of things.

She kicked you out, eh? Actors. Hmph. Atresses seem to be no different. What can be so hard about learning a few lines by heart? Who's that friend of hers you're staying with, then? Human or vampire? And are they doing any interesting art?

I can see Arthur getting stuck in an artist's studio. He loves paintings. But - hmmm. He'll have to fess up. Underworld, I'm so not going to let you escape.

I'm so very glad we're talking via PC. If Teppic could see me blush...

Um. Yes, they've talked to me about it. Only afterwards, though. I think they didn't want to spook me. It doesn't seem all that bad, from what they've said. As long as it's all consensual, of course. Um. Gods, I'm blushing because of words I'm typing. This is ridiculous.

His name is Oriel Zamzummim, and he's a playwright. He's very good, too. And not just at writing plays.

pteppicymon September 28 2004, 07:09:27 UTC
Oh, Beth always goes on about all blood-drinking there is consensual. Everything else is so barbaric to his fine Sacramantan sensibilities. He thinks he shocks us with it. He doesn't; it takes more to shock trained assassins. I'm more curious about, erm, do they really enjoy it? Beth doesn't talk about that. And his Captain doesn't either.

Is he human or vampire? What are his plays like? Anything like the Hwel plays at the Dysk?
