Weekend Update

Apr 29, 2008 18:07

The weekend just gone by was the Anzac Day long weekend. We celebrated Anzac Day in the traditional manner that the large majority of Australians do, which is to sit at home doing bugger all. Thats right. Oh the papers would have you believe that everyone gets up for the dawn service, but we all know that the masses would much prefer a good sleep in!

That being said, I pay my respects to our courageous Anzacs, whom gave their lives to ensure that we can all spend our long weekends sleeping in in the safety and sanctity of our own homes. So by sleeping in, and enjoying those extra hours of slumber, we all indeed honour them. So says we all... or so says me at least!

Anyway, the weekend was by and large quite enjoyable. Damo came up from Canberra to visit for the weekend without the missus. As nice as she is, it's a nice break when he comes up solo because it gives us the chance to catch up on some marathon bouts of Fifa 08 on the 360 without undue interruption. Console sporting games, very much like sex, is always more enjoyable being played with someone other than yourself!

Fifa 08 Action

And so we had a few friends pop round for a night of cheese fondue (again!!!) and poker. I believe, this would be the third time we've had cheese fondue in 10 days. 4 actually if you included the next days leftovers! Now that's alot of cheese!

Somewhere in the horizon, someone tripped and fell on a Nuke

Similar to the porcelin throne, this would soon be filled with yellow goodness

Seeing as it was at our place, I decided to run the show my way. Cheese fondue... with lots of meat! None of this sissy ham off the bone stuff, I'm talking solid Wagyu Steaks that were soon to be laden with cheesy goodness!!! Ohhhh yeah. I need my meat. Solid chunks of no holds barred meat. Now you won't catch me saying that in a gay bar, but you certainly will at mealtimes! Unfortunately, I decided to get smart and do what I never do, and that would be to close the lid on the BBQ. I don't know why I did, but I did and in the process, absolutely charred the steaks to a crisp :(

Crime against good Wagyu

I opened the blackened lid to see this roaring fire which unfortunately turned the steaks a delightful shade of almost black. However, thankfully they were Wagyu grade steaks! Due to the high fat marbling in them, they were still delightfully tender! After most of the charcoaly bits have been scrapped off the exterior of course. Ruining good steaks.... what a crime.

*geek references*
All your chips.... are belong to me / Im in ur gamez, steelnz ur chips

Anyway with dinner done, it was time to get on with Poker! I've been aching for a good game of Texas Hold'em recently. Normally I'm quite crap at poker, with no patience to fold when I should and have to sit out a round or two or ten if smart play calls for it. Hence, I'm usually the first one out. But the poker application on Facebook has taught me that patience is truly a virtue and that it is part and parcel of playing poker well. And for the first time.... I won!!!!

My Empire!!!

Against all odds, the game eventually boiled down to the final two which was Erica and myself. And seeing as it was getting late, upped the ante with a winner takes all/champion of the universe round, with the winner taking home the loot and also receiving back and "piku" rubs until they fall asleep that night! :) And I won with a straight against her 2 pairs.... score!!!!

My Winnings- Not quite as satisfying as a stack of clothes and lingerie from a strip poker session with the Victorias Secret lasses. But statisfying all the same....

The rest of the weekend was pretty quiet. We ducked out quickly for a friends housewarming on Saturday night. We, or I more specifically, had to get back by 9pm because the guys were coming round to watch the Manchester United Vs Chelsea match on Fox Sports. Naturally, we all hoped that Man U(re) would get whopped because they suck more than Carson Kressley at a gay pride parade, but unfortunately the end result was a 1-1 draw.

Sunday morning heralded a final round of Fifa 08 before Damo left and we met up with my family for some quality yum cha as always. Solid weekend all up. For once, I didn't mind the weekend ending because it means that we begin the final countdown to our honeymoon in the Maldives... Woo!!!!

Hilariously and coincidentally, I was wearing my high school PE shirt and Damo his high school jersey
