Okay not quite, but they bloody well should given the amount of their crap that I buy! Seeing as I haven't bought anything for myself for a good long while, I figured I deserved to treat myself! Okay.... well the truth is that seeing Erica coming home from the shops with new dresses, and random things arriving for her from Ebay I felt a wee bit left out and in need of a self-purchased pressie.

Now I've been meaning to buy these things for some months now but I've held off previously purchasing them primarily because of the need to save money for the wedding. And now that that is over we have to save for the honeymoon. But it's so damn hard being thrifty for that long and so I decided to just do it! So here are my new toys!

My Lovelies

Firstly we have my new speaker system. For the longest time I've always had my PC hooked up to a a hi-fi system of sorts, whether that be a mini, midi, or maxi. Basically anything with an amp so I can have hard hitting base for my gaming and movies. But unfortunately I don't currently have one for my setup. I had initially purchased a pretty damn sexy pair of enclosed headphones which sound absolutely beautiful, and are so immensely comfortable. The downside however is that Erica could be yakking away at me and I just wouldn't even realise. Next thing I know I get a tug on the sleeve and sad pouty face asking me why I'm ignoring her!!! Sigh... so I shelved those wonderful headsets for her sake and replaced them with a temporary set of $15 el cheapo speakers. Now those speakers by and large do the job.... but then again, so does eating a can of cat food for dinner.

So I've decided to go with the Logitech Z-10s because they integrate a full amplifier, base, and tweeter into a relatively compact (though damn heavy) unit. It pumps out very solid sound, and is by far the best set of stereo speakers that I've ever had. Not to mention that they look pure sex to boot. The speakers connect to the PC via USB and relays active data from the PC to the LCD display on the speaker. So you can view the time/date, playlist, song details, email alerts, and CPU and RAM monitoring information all on the display on the speakers. Pretty useless in the big scheme of things, but it's still kinda cool :)

Now I've also been meaning for a long time to replace the wireless keyboard in the lounge that I use to interface with the Home Theatre or Media PC. Currently I'm using an old RF Keyboard and Mouse which although functional, suffers from lack of decent wireless range. If I wanted to sit back on the couch, I'd have to pull the wireless RF receiver across the floor to do so which is kinda annoying. To replace that, I was looking for something which both integrates the mouse and keyboard to remove clutter, and also to get the maximum range possible.

I ended up with the Logitech diNovo Edge because it gives a 20m range as it uses bluetooth and not RF to communicate with the PC. Although I've previously had some bad experiences with connectivity dropouts with bluetooth mice and keyboards, a friend whom had this assured me that it works a treat with the minimum of disconnections. Plus another great thing which I love about it, it's chargeable!!! Just like my mouse, having a chargeable wireless device is a godsend because it totally eliminates the need to keep scouring for batteries from time to time. This keyboard uses a touchpad similar to a laptop, and integrates most media functions that a person needs into quick access touch keys which light up when used. All in all, this is one pretty hot fucking keyboard.

Now I actually had a very valid reason to replace my primary keyboard.... and that was because it sucks. It was a generic freebie keyboard that had problems with sticking keys and all that wonderful stuff that I've been putting up with for some time now again. I've decided to replace it with the G15 gaming keyboard. It's basically designed to increase gaming versatility. You've got additional keys would you can use to customise macros. It has an LCD panel so you can stay in touch with your operating system whilst still in game. you can customise notifications so that you're notified of server availability when in a game or application. It's pretty cool. I doubt I'll be using most of the functions but hey... you never know! Plus the keys just feel so silky smooth to touch and press.... sigh.... I can stroke these keys alllll day. And I don't mean press!
