Sexy, Sexy, Satire

I'm working on this play. As you might of guessed from above, it's a satire about sex. Specifically, it's a satire about sex in the American culture, and how we all get it wrong. The religious leaders get it wrong, the politicians get it wrong, the entertainment industry gets it wrong, the teenagers get it wrong, and the parents get it wrong. We all fail, over and over again. We are all so scared of our sexuality, but it is probably our strongest urge. At least it is the strongest urge that won't kill us if we ignore or repress it, like urges to eat, drink, and sleep will.

I started thinking about this project very early in the year, and even had the first three or four scenes written by the spring. I was able to write a bunch in june and july, but since then my rate of production has slowed greatly. I finished one scene this morning and was looking to continue, but I'm finding that I don't know what is next. Because this is an issue play there isn't much of a story. Yes, I've done character design and there's been some character arcs in mind, but not much firm. Maybe that's what I need to do. Go back to the basics. Ask myself what I want to say, what I want the characters to learn.
