January Month-in-Review

The Challenge

Goal 1: 3 hours / week on a personal project This was as expected the hardest one. I started strong: worked with my dad to put a floor in our attic; set up a Wikidot site for prototaph; and fleshed out an "economic" system for a hypothetical Civilization-like computer game I dream about sometimes (not ready to show that off yet...). Then at the end of January we got two new kittens, plus I started my grad class, so my progress slowed. There's some low-hanging fruit though that can get me back here at the beginning of February. The kittens are getting easier to manage, and hopefully I will get into a rhythm with class that will get me some time to work on more personal projects.

Goal 2: 3 essays / month Got this one under the wire. Einstein on "thinking"; Pondering infinity; and Mechanical thinking. The final essay was frustrating to write (probably frustrating or at least boring to read), so I will probably take a break on that thread for a week or two. But don't worry -- it will return! ;-). I have a conclusion I'm going towards, and even if nobody reads it, I'm doing it as much for myself as my readers.

Goal 3: Lose 33 pounds / year I've discovered that I fluctuate in weight a lot more per day than I thought. As anailia says, I should weigh myself at a consistent time each day for most precision. Still, I've trended downwards about 5 pounds just through January. I'm walking upwards of 8000 to 9000 steps a weekday, and ride the exercise bike 2-3 times a week. That dropped off the week we got the new kittens, but got back on this week. I haven't kept up well with the Hacker's Diet exercise plan. Need to develop a time to do that same time every day.

February's a shorter month. Better get crackin' on some essays and exercising!
