Wanna know why I am against the death penalty? Here is the reason right here

Let's summarize: Cops mistakenly break down the door of a sleeping man, late at night, as part of drug raid. Turns out, the man wasn't named in the warrant, and wasn't a suspect. The man, frigthened for himself and his 18-month old daughter, fires at an intruder who ( Read more... )

I do not agree with this. One of the moral problems we have currently, is our inability to express ourselves without a weapon. The first resort to being intruded upon by the police should not be to open fire. I understand that in the confusion, you might be scared or startled and think it's a home invasion. Honestly, it shouldn't take very long at all to discover that things are not quite that way. Home invasions aren't usually that well organized or equipped. How many home invaders have you heard about that use full SWAT gear?

As for the "innocent" man, if he's living in a house that sells/does drugs on such a basis to get noticed by a police raid, he's just as guilty as they are for not having reported it prior. It's called aiding and abetting. No, it won't deserve the trumped up charge that the police will likely give him for possession, but it doesn't mean he's anywhere near innocent. It is indeed a regrettable situation, but hopefully one that isn't very common.

I am for the death penalty in very rare cases, where the intent and the deed are very clear. Murderers with no remorse, rapists who are repeat offenders, ect. The poor schmo who shot someone in his botched 7-11 raid? No. He will likely regret that for the rest of his life and has a chance at rehabilitation. A special plastic cell for Hannibal Lecter? Not a chance, that's all Hollywood. Save us all some money and grief, get it over with.

I disagree with the first part of that. Very strenuously. I have a right to be safe in my home. That right includes safety from anyone that has invaded my home in a criminal fashion - which is what the police in this case did.
