Some reporter asked a guy at NASA if they were completely sure that the shuttles re-entry would go safely. You really should not ask a scientist if the are 'completely' sure of anything.

He had a great answer though..

he said - The shuttle on re-entry, will be traveling at 17,500 miles per hour. Those speeds will cause the atmosphere it is forcing out of its path to shock heat to almost 3000 degrees Fahrenheit. Understandably, we have reservations about using the terms 'completely safe' as it regards to this process.
