Shockingly, I think I am actually starting to love it here. I've fallen in love with my job, my colleagues, and not quite yet the city, but I really do like it a lot. Cincinnati has a lot to offer, and I'm having a blast at P&G.
To backtrack - this past week has been full of CMK new-hire training, which is where everyone said I would make friends (everyone else I had met was in their late 20s/30s, married, maybe a kid of two - just not people I could actually befriend). Day 1 was okay, but it was really that evening where I actually got to start knowing people. We went out for drinks at this one bar, and I had a blast. Day 2-3 were punctuated with more drinking, girl-talk, and more generally getting-to-know-you stuff.
Today's qualitative training (day 4) was awesome. This morning, my colleague Eric and I went out to Kentucky to interview a woman about skin care and her perceptions of beauty . . . and it was just so fun. I know it sounds cheesy, but I really did kind of start to see what my trainers were talking about when they kept mentioning that CMK was the voice of the consumer. Eric and I had a great time (we even found this badass park on a hill overlooking the downtown Cincy skyline and the Ohio River. Eric called it a great make-out spot. Me, I'm not so sure), and we all found some incredibly interesting results that we got to really think about and analyze for the rest of the day (although parts of the analysis were hardcore boring). The day ended with skits (lame, I know) of what insights we had all gathered from our interviews and analysis . . . and just the level of goof-off-ery and general hijinx (is that how it's spelled??) really showed how comfortable all group members were with each other. A bunch of us even talked about having a potluck dinner next week, and if you know me at all, you know how excited I am at this prospect.
So basically, I love my CMK new-hire class, and I really do love my job. I just hope this general feeling lasts.
