Just a
quick update: our poor old dog is hanging in there. The tumour is larger, but she's gained some much needed weight. We found food she really enjoys eating and she still enjoys her time romping in the yard so *crossing fingers* this state of things continues for awhile.
Chaz celebrated her big five-oh (50th) on the 4th. We went to Disneyland which confiscated my lightweight folding chair (which was crucial since I was having a bad inflammatory flare and the heel I fractured some years back was unhappy and swollen). This incurred a huge expense since we then had to rent a mobility scooter.
My old one's been in storage at home, needing a bit of a tune up for ages. I've had enough improvements I've only needed to use one maybe twice in the last eight years, so we've let it slide and not taken it in to be serviced and no longer haul it around all the time. Despite the expense though, it was a nice day, marred only by a freak cold front that moved in that evening.
The last time I'd been to Disney was over 40 years ago and I'd forgotten most of it, so I place the blame entirely on Chaz who swears she forgot that the Pirates of the Caribbean ride involved being soaked with water. So yes, we left the park wet and badly chilled. I still don't know how we managed to not catch a nasty cold, but hey - I'll take it gladly.
What the geek in me did enjoy very much was all the Star Wars related attractions and things they now have. I found my brother a special gift for his birthday (June). So it wasn't a ride I enjoyed most, it was a great short feature about the history of Star Wars, which covered every single film to date. It filled me with nostalgia to see some of my favourite moments on the big screen again.
As usual after having to use a wheelchair or scooter I was filled with disgust and exercised with more vigour than sense usual and so I pulled my back a few days ago. Ugh. It's doing better now, but it was a misery for a couple days there and I didn't appreciate it. I don't mind getting older, but I don't like my body reminding me it's not as spry as it used to be. *rg*
The other thing I don't appreciate are the increase in migraines lately. x3 days now with the current one. Thankfully there are lulls in it, like atm. I think the weirdly fluctuating weather is causing them. We swing from freak heat waves to freak cold fronts, from loads of rain to dry as dust. Poor Mother Nature... I think she's fighting off the ague.
Nothing else to say, so I leave off with some links I found of interest.
President Obama nominates Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court As it so happens... HRC's statement on Merrick Garland's nomination to the SCOTUS An excellent analysis of Trump and the hatred that follows him.
If you haven't already, check out
The Human Rights Campaign for the latest and how you can help redress at least a few of this country's ills.
So disgusted by this:
Rape kit system unnecessary since most accusations false, Idaho sheriff says. *smh* I'm sure the ladies in his jurisdiction feel so safe with him in charge...
Something's up with Ceres' bright spots. Kinda cool.
I think it's rather beautiful that the
only script in Shakespeare's handwriting urges compassion for migrants. Compassion is something this tired old world desperately needs.
Wouldn't believe it until I saw the image, which is rather endearing:
Pigeons don backpacks to monitor air pollution over London offer data on the fly Doesn't the one below the main image seem proud to be doing his/her part for the advancement of science? ;-)
