Such is the life of a soon-to-be MSW and bride

Yesterday I received word from Bethesda-Dilworth Skilled Nursing Facility that they would like to interview me for a full-time medical social worker position. Thrilled to be contacted by anyone, I requested an interview ASAP, and fought the horrific roads to get there this morning. After speaking with a recruiter from Human Resources, followed by the Social Services coordinator, I felt pretty excellent about my chances of NOT getting this job.

Unfortunately, they need someone who can start immediately, and between classes and practicum (and even if I quit CMHSR), I just do not have 40 hours in my week to commit to the position, even if it does pay in the top end of what I was hoping to be hired at. Besides, the position definitely has as many cons as pros.

- It's a skilled nursing facility for the elderly, a placement I have little experience in and have never desired to do. (I only sent in my resume because there are only so many opening for medical social workers that pop up for me!)

- There are currently 2 social workers on staff, and whoever takes this position will have a caseload of 150+ residents. (Yikes!)

- And while the coordinator seemed very cool, she is currently working on her own MSW at UMSL, which would mean in-work licensure supervision would be non-existent.

(I need to have supervision by a licensed clinical social worker for something like 7000 hours over a few years time before I can become fully licensed, so it helps if my boss has more education and experience than I do!) On the other hand, she seemed very willing to be flexible and accommodate my needs (she tried to think of other LCSWs in the company who might be able to supervise from a distance), and she did end the meeting by being upfront about the need for someone ASAP, which I greatly appreciated. (Nothing bothers me more than possible employers not replying after interviews and just leaving me hanging.)

She is hoping to get the go-ahead to hire an additional worker around April or May, so she said she would definitely keep my file and give me a call if something opened. In summary, not a complete waste of a morning (a possible opening on the back burner and good interview experience, if nothing else). Now, if only something would open up for me a Cardinal Glennon.

As for wedding updates, the invitations are in and accurate, and I am going to begin addressing them this weekend. I need to pick up my shoes, pick out shoes for the girls, and get a seamstress picked out SOON. I need to call Rose of the Hill and schedule a time to try food. I need to get to the bakery and place the order for our cake that we decided on weeks ago. I need push for decisions to be made on showers and the rehearsal dinner. And I need to finalize my flower order with the florist.

Oh, and then there's that grad school thing I'm trying to finish too. Boo.
