[ appearance ]
Usually, you'd take one look at this guy and think something like, what a nice looking young man! Not in the sense that he's nicely dressed or prim and proper, because he's not. Always dressed in some variation of a black t-shirt and khaki slacks, running around in a pair of sandals, he looks casual and comfortable most of the time, ready to move. Black hair left in a messy neck-length cut that gives off a cheerful, rogue-like vibe, paired off with bright blue eyes give him a mischievous sort of image. But, y'know, girls like bad boys, and he certainly doesn't look bad. Handsome in some ways, cute in others, he's still fairly attractive, especially in the way he moves all confident and good-natured, well-formed features constantly shaped in a cheerful grin.
Except, except, don't ever get him riled up, because that's when things start to change. Oh, it's not that he goes into a rage, nothing like that. But rather, show any sign that you're strong, or worth fighting, then it's the little things that suddenly make him look -- not-so-nice-after-all. Eyes lit up with a vicious glint, and teeth bared in a smile that's all hungry for blood and action. (And you can almost swear they sharpen into fangs. That's how goddamn freaky it is.) Shoulders hunched, limbs tensed, not out of fear, but out of pure fucking glee -- he can't wait to punch you across the face, yeah?
But then, the moment all that tension's down, the change back to 'cheerful dorky college kid' is instantaneous. No remaining sign of that animal smile or the insane leer, only a good-natured laugh and flailing arms as he waves 'hello' to you.
[ personality ]
First impression you'd get, something along the lines of: oh, what a cheerful guy! Because he really is. He's one of those guys who's everyone's buddy, always smiling and laughing and joking and just getting along with everyone! And even though some people might find him a little too straightforwards, they're generally the minority, because he's hard to dislike under most circumstances. Y'know the type of guy I'm talking about. Almost crass, almost rude, but he's just so happy and good-natured about it all that he only ends up being rogue-ish, like a mischevous puppy. Sure, it might chew up your slippers, but then when it comes to you wagging its tail, ready to fetch a stick because that's fun, then how can you help but like it?
Except, you know. He's not quite always that kind, because there's one thing that triggers a switch, a skewed 180, and that's the prospect of a fight. Harboring something close to a brother complex, Mikazuki hates to be the loser, always wants to be the one on top. If someone else is strong, then that means that he can always fight them down, and step up into the place above them. Sure, he'll laugh and chat and joke and talk with you, but if here's ever a hint that you're any stronger than average, he'll turn on you the next moment, get you out alone, then ask you with a leering grin painted across his features, "Hey, wanna play with me?"
But the thing is, it's not really a malicious sort of thought process, not at all. In a way, it's not even the title of "being better" that he wants, it's just the thrill of the fight, the excitement of knowing that he's strong. There's this game he likes, and it's called 'Catch,' and it basically consists of two people taking turns punching each other in the face without dodging -- that says something about him, doesn't it? Despite his ridiculously friendly front, Mikazuki is one of those guys who's always thirsting for action, for blood, for violence -- not for the sake of anything else, just for the sake of fighting. Because it's so much fun, isn't it?
And once the fight's over, it's alright no matter the outcomes. Of course, winning would be nice, because that means he's super strong, but only as long as the fight was fun. Losing -- oh yeah, sure, he can stand losing too, as long as the fight was fun. But he won't give up any time soon, he'll just go off to train by himself, then come right back, challenging you to another game. It's fun, it's great, and this time I'll overcome you! Come on, let's go! It's almost stupid, the way he keeps challenging people regardless of outcomes, isn't it?
The thing is, it's like he's lacking in some sort of restraint, maybe that's the reason behind all his happy-happy-hey-sup mentality. He doesn't understand why people would be restrained or cold or reserved or -- you know? That's no fun. Very much a live-and-let-live sort of person, he goes through life acting mostly out of 'feeling.' Whatever he feels like doing, he'll go ahead and do without much thought of consequences or costs. He'll deal with stuff like that when it comes around later, why should he have to hold himself back? So if he feels like going to the house of some other student he knows and rummaging around his fridge and plopping down on his bed to chew on a random carrot he found, babbling away about something without even asking for permission to come in -- then why shouldn't he? What's stopping him?
Oh, he's smart, don't get it wrong, he's not mentally deficient or anything, it's just that he's a little -- off. Not quite entirely on target. Like, a guy who didn't quite make the trip from animal to human, kind of straddled in an awkward place in the middle and not really caring, because -- hey, don't you wanna play?
[ abilities ]
Mikazuki is first and foremost a martial artist -- but not in the traditional sense, because he fights entirely without 'style.' It's like he just picked up a handful of martial arts and mashed them together in a blender, picking out any moves that seemed useful and easy, and just utilizing them as his own. He fights wildly, without thought, with amazing reflexes and an almost inhuman ability to move and twist and retaliate in a split second -- but lack entirely in any 'refinement.' He's strong, almost ridiculously so for someone of his build and size, but not 'intelligent' in his fights. Far too reckless, without any restraint -- if you could see past the high-speed movements and wild kicks, it wouldn't be difficult to tell that he's not strong enough.
But then again -- it's not like physical ability is all he has. Because that wouldn't be anywhere near enough. He's mostly human, that's for sure, despite the animal movements and wild leers, but there's one thing that seperates him from normal humans, and that's his 'domain control' ability. It's a simple thing, really, almost insignifcant at first glance. There's a ring on his hand, and using it, he can generate an area which he can control by psychokinesis. That's all it is. He calls it "Houtenjin," and it takes the shape of an enormous sphere that he splits up into dozens of smaller orbs. Sends them whirling through the air, surrounding his opponent. And you'd think -- what's the use of that? That doesn't do shit? Ah, but well. You'd be surprised at one can do with a score of basketball-sized pockets of air that you can control.
And that's all, really. Simple, isn't it? But much more formidable than you'd think.
[ history ]
"Battle demon" Mikazuki, younger brother of "Fuujin" Shinonome Hangetsu. Can you blame the kid for having a bit of an inferiority complex when he grew up with such an 'amazing' older brother? From a very young age, Mikazuki trained himself to fight, learned to spar, but never quite reached the top, always right behind his older sibling. And no matter how much he practiced, no matter how much he tried, he could never quite overcome his older.
And he grew up like this, constantly searching for people to challenge, so he could beat them. Partly because of his damned older brother that he could never overcome. He was just about to enter college when he challenged a roving motorcycle gang, and beat down the lot of them with his bare hands, earning himself the halfway-dignified nickname of "Battle Demon Mikazuki."
Not that it quite lived up to the title of "Fuujin."
Either way, that was the only thing in his life, challenging, fighting, winning, losing, going back, trying again, winning this time -- even after he entered college, he ditched for a few months to backpack around Asia for a while (probably to challenge a few more people), and eventually came back to hear the news -- his brother had died. Murdered at the hands of a Golem in the battle between the Earth and Mage.
It was somewhere during this time that he became the "Crow Knight," gifted with the ring of domain control and the silent crow companion that always followed him. How amazing was that? Thrown in a magnificent battle, the perfect opportunity for challenging stronger people -- he couldn't wait to see what happened.
[ false memories ]
Born the son of a famous martial artist, Mikazuki was raised in a martial arts dojo, learning the art of fighting from a very young age. Not that he ever lived up to his father's expectations, sadly enough. Too wild, too unrestrained, he only learned the very basics of his father's teachings, then used them in his own way, mutilating the carefully-calculated art of combat into a wild and animal method of self-entertainment. And though it was tolerable at first, it wasn't long until it grew to be a problem -- his disobedience, combined with his constant thirst for blood.
It started with another student his age, at the dojo -- young Mikazuki kicked him upside the head, instantly winning the match and putting the kid in the hospital for a whole week. Then it was other students at school. Then older students. Then older thugs. (Somewhere in this process, he graduated high school, entered college, with a scholarship to attend classes at Elysium University. SUre, that was all good and fine, but it just wasn't fun.) Then --
Really, it was just a matter of time before he ventured into Abyss, kicking his way into one of the infamous laboratories, face all bandaged from where he'd gotten in a few too many fights. Kurotsuchi Mayuri and William Flemming. People he'd heard of from others on the street, he just went smashing his way up to them and said, "Hey. Can you guys make me stronger?"
That was how he was gifted with the powers of the Crow Knight -- given the crow companion Muu, and the ability of Domain Control. And maybe he could have been altered even more (though perhaps not in a human sort of way), except he was far too impatient, and ran out of the labs the moment he realized that he'd gained this one power. It was more than enough! He promptly went scampering to one of the back alleys in Terra and beat up a gang of motorbikers, earning himself the nickname of "Battle Demon Mikazuki."
After spending a few weeks simple wandering between the three levels, he finally returned to college and classes, deciding that maybe he should at least try some pretense at maintaining a normal life. Though, of course, he still spends all his free time hunting down strong people, challenging them to fights, bugging them until they agree -- win or loss, it didn't matter, he'd just continue the process over and over. Because that's the way to live, isn't it? Live for the thrill of the fight, yeah!
[ relationships ]
SADIQ ADNAN |
enmasked | "Sa-chan." Owner of Debauchery Den, who hired Mikazuki as a bouncer after an impromptu sparring match. Surprisingly strong. Mikazuki plans on ambushing him for another fight sometime. Soon would be better.
SENJI KIYOMASA |
mauling | "Senji-nii." Surrogate older brother, and the one Mikazuki is constantly aiming to (and failing to) defeat. Saw him at the labs mauling another lab experiment and from then on, has considered Senji his 'rival.' Often ambushes for matches. Otherwise on good terms.
TERRY MCGINNIS |
fightcrazy | "Terry-chan." Surrogate younger brother, and fellow experiment fodder. Not bad a fighter, and therefore a favorite subject to pounce on for an impromptu brawl. Then go get fast food with. Also has a doggie. Fun to hang out with.
WILLIAM FLEMMING |
myfedorarocks | "Uncle." One of the scientists that got him the domain control ability. Bit of a weird old man, but doesn't seem like a bad guy. Mikazuki occasionally drops in out of the blue to hang out with him.
