oh the goodness of living

life has been good lately. we are currently updating the top floor of the house---we have now replaced the outlets and light switches and will begin painting tomorrow. we=my dad and some electrician and my checkbook. it will be beautiful. i am also refinishing the floors in one of the bedrooms in anticipation of moving up there. word. i also finally finished the basement laundry room to my satisfaction, and cleaned out the garage for the most part. home delight.

i finished The God Delusion. very interesting and very well written. my favorite things he writes about are how religious indoctrination is akin to child abuse, because teaching a child that faith of any sort (i.e. belief without evidence) is good is dangerous and evil. Especially when we know how critical careful consideration of evidence is in survival and success. He also destroys any indications that the bible is necessary for morality by showing how many awful and immoral things are written in there (and not just in the old testament). Highly recommended.

My winter break reading list: The Black Book by Orham Pamuk, The Three Sons by Kafka, the new short story collection by Murakami, and the Jonathan Franzen my sister bought me. Non-fiction will be Discipline and Punish by Foucault.

In movie land lately: Days of Being Wild is interesting. Music Box and Take My Eyes (finally on DVD) are both stunning and beautiful and wonderful. The Pick of Destiny is rehashed and horrible. Manderlay is typical thought provoking Lars Von Trier. Stranger than Fiction is wonderful, has great pacing and periodic hilarity, and is a treasure. Who Killed the Electric Car is an insight into public/governmet/industry folly of all sorts. The VICE magazine Guide to Travel is fascinating. Z is amazing. John Tucker Must Die is must not see.

I have seen and rated almost 1700 selections on Netflix. Blawsome.

I also beat Adventures of Lolo 3 (crazy long but fun) and Dragon Warrior 3 (also crazy long) both for Nintendo. I finally got sixtyforce working on my computer and played some 007 and Perfect Dark today. I want a USB N64 controller for Christmas, and glitch free gameplay on a computer that is 8 years senior the N64. A boy can dream.

As for Legoland, I got the Sandcrawler and Jabba's Sail Barge for my birthday, and I also picked up 6055, 6082, 6056, 6828, and 6017. Good times and dragons galore. 6057 and 6830 are on their way this week.

Thanks for all of the birthday well wishes. It was tremendous. Sanford is the best restaurant ever, eclipsing even Magnus, the Opera House and Lake Park Bistro. The food was as good as Roots or the Knick, but the atmosphere was far superior. Happy birthday to me.

I am 12 days away from the end of finals. Cannot wait. Cumulative microbiology and a little baby Pathology exam. No worries.

Good night y'all. I finna play Donkey Kong and watch The Last Life in the Universe.
