laws are made by man, not by God

God does not have an opinion about patent laws for drugs. Most people would like to see shorter patent windows so they can get essential drugs cheaper (i dont care how much Viagra costs, but AIDS medicine is essential to LIFE). you know who doesnt want that change? pharm companies and some of their investors (the ones who have more money than drug costs). i mean, i understand we have the rule of law but what the fuck? i think people who work there should just print the formula, have it made overseas and ship it back here cheap. there is some civil disobedience for you (and corporate espionage, but who's counting?)

i saw an argument today about how conservatives dont hate the poor (i am sure the ones who think about the poor dont hate them, but they might be a minority). anyway, this guy was saying that government programs create a cycle of poverty. i think poverty creates a cycle of poverty, but that's beside the point. i mean, i can see giving up on cold fusion, or transplanting human heads, but this one does not seem unsolvable. why don't we find out what it would cost to do it right? and what checks and balances we can put in place to see that it gets done right. i mean, to say "fuck it" is not OK with me. in the "do nothing and screw em" versus the "give them enough to survive" argument, i would rather waste money and save lives than the other way around. so that's my challenge to the zero Republicans who read my blog. tell me what your solution to poverty is. bootstraps? i hope you have some to hand out, or a hand to lend. something concrete. suggestions:

get a job---we'll help. if you keep it, you get a raise from the government for 24 mos. in a row. once you have a steady job history, you can go make more than minimum wage (maybe).

raise the minimum wage. this might make the business world more competitive, but at this point, no job is better than 5.15 an hour. either way you aint getting anywhere. just read books at the library and eat at the soup kitchen. dont let teenagers call you names and your manager treat you like shit.

get an education. we'll pay for it, and pay more if you do well. you want new shoes? an A in shop class gets you 100 dollars.

i mean, i dont know shit about shit. i know that what we do aint working, so lets try something new.

major problems in the US:
health care (insurance, drug company influence)
energy policy
violent crime (esp. among the poor)
education (how to pay for it, and how to make it work)
poverty (and crime, and violence, and health problems)
spending on war, weapons and debt to pay for old wars, weapons
terror against chemical, power plants and port security
stagnant wages (cant afford college, insurance, housing, gas)

problems targeted by Republicans:
rich people paying too much taxes
corporations not making enough money to send jobs overseas
women having control over their bodies
people having sex
people filing for bankruptcy after crippling illness
telecom companies not making enough money on the internet
too many brown people coming in "illegally"
gas prices (not energy policy, mind you, just baby fixes for gas prices)
the spread of communism
how can old white men get more money, more pussy, and more power?

rant fin.
