Combichrist (Dürer Kert, 2009. 03. 26.)

Combichrist was shitty and exactly what I expected it to be. All in all, I was glad I didn't do it on A38. Hell, I was even glad we didn't have to pay entry!

All right, the idea of a drummer and a percussionist was something they had coming for a long time, and you simply can't miss with two drummers. If I could, I would even go for two drummers in my own music, too.

The trouble is that - apart from the fact that they have never really produced clever music - their new songs lack anything resembling traditional song structures, and therefore lack any dynamic changes. Combichrist songs have become four-minute choruses, and you can't keep up a chorus and full-dynamics for four minutes, or else it gets boring. Very boring. My whole impression was that nothing happens in their songs, and it happens for a looong time...

I was also very curious about Dürer Kert, since that's the venue I consider our biggest setback or rival with A38. Now that I've seen it, I can only think about it as "Kultiplex Plusz". Everyone kept on bragging they have Martin Audio soundgear installed there, and I see it on the lights and sound that they wanted to do a good job, but you simply can't make a shoebox sound good, not even with Martin Audio. Even our Nexxo gear wouldn't work there - I was standing next to the front desk, and I could feel the wall of sound closing a few meters in front of me, which is okay for the 200 people in there. I don't know about the other 400 outside of it, when there's a full house going on...

Anyway, it was nice to talk to Jan, and to Zero, they were both very kind and nice to see.

Not being a goth doesn't hurt any more.
