So I awoke to a seemingly normal morning. The same old dragging out of bed, putting on of sweatshirt, unwillingness to walk to class. Yet somehow the hall seemed emptier than usual. After the first "All classes delayed until 10:30am" sign, I grew a little suspicious. Being the paranoid girl I am, I continued to walk down the stairs to the front door. With the third "All classes delayed" sign and the apparent isolation of the campus, I knew something was definitely wrong. And then I receive this in an e-mail:
To all Students:
There have been many questions about the incident that occurred on and near the South Campus early this morning. What follows are the facts of the incident as I know them. I hope this might clarify any questions you may have.
A little after 3:30 a.m. this morning, two Radnor Police officers responded to a report of a man acting suspiciously near 114 Browning Lane and Meadowwood Road, an area adjacent to Villanova University’s South Campus six residence halls and dining hall. Radnor Police reported that upon arrival to the designated area, they encountered an African American male about 5-foot-11 inches tall wearing a black ski cap and blue sweat suit who fired approximately 10 shots at the officers as they attempted to apprehend him. Radnor Police proceeded to notify the Villanova University Office of Public Safety. At approximately 4 a.m., Public Safety immediately responded to the request by Radnor Police to secure the residence halls and dining hall on the South campus. The lockdown continued until 10:20 a.m. when Radnor Police ended their restrictions on the South Campus. At that time the S.W.A.T. team, a State Police helicopter and K-9 units that had assembled to search for the assailant were debriefed and left the area. Classes which had been canceled earlier in the morning, resumed at 11:30 a.m.
Villanova University’s Office of Public Safety will maintain an increased presence in the area throughout the afternoon and evening and maintain close contact with the Radnor Police.
The safety and security of students is Villanova University’s number one priority. Public Safety Housing Officers were stationed, as they normally are each evening, at their regularly assigned posts at the entrance to each of the South Campus residence halls.
What irritates me most is the attitude of most of the students. Some are acting like they're oh so knowledgeable in this sort of situation. Since they go to VanillaNova they would definitely know about the ghetto and drive by shootings. And some are overreacting to the point that they refuse to leave their dorms. Dear lords! True, the shooter hasn't been caught. But that doesn't mean he's lurking around on campus while the police are on the lookout. I'm just glad no one got hurt.
On a side note: WHY ISN'T IT SNOOOWING! fufu!
