So...In the middle of working on a set of opening credits for a film I get a virus that bungs up my computer. No boot. Okay fine. I'll do a repair install. Nope. Repair install seems to slow down at 50% to the point of 5 hours + to get even a little further. It was still going...just slow....then it hangs. So fine, I attach it to another computer in the house to copy all the files off of it. The computer in the basement will take days to copy the files through the wireless network. I can't wait. So I attach the drive to Juli's computer to copy the files. Nope...her computer for some reason or another does NOT like it and refuses to boot her OS with it on it. I can attach the drive by itself and try the repair install of windows but it still hangs.
So I try to pop it into a removable fire wire HD case to attach to her system. Seems like a great idea but the DAMN case is faulty and has fried the drive (a drive failed in this case a while back but I figured the damn case was not the problem...guess I was wrong).
God Dammit! I had a lot of stuff on that drive (160gb).
I'm really pissed. I've looked all over the web at Drive recovery solutions. There is one in Canada that says "Under $500" that I'm looking at. I'm pretty sure that the IDE controller is the only part that is fried. They replace that and it should work. I'm willing to pay $500 for those files. I just want to fucking kill something though over that damn case. I mean, I HAD THOSE FILES online on the basement computer...I should have went with the 2 day copy.
