[Jack headed for the dining hall as well, thinking over what he'd read in Harvey's file. They'd need to talk about Rachel and about the explosion. He was prepared for resistance on Harvey's part. He didn't want to think about his own past, and he didn't really intend to force Harvey to talk about his, but just meeting and drinking together would help establish communication.
He went into the dining hall and saw his inmate over the other side of the room. Jack rubbed the scar tissue on his own face as he wondered exactly how bad Harvey's scars were. Here goes nothing.] Harvey?
[Jack came closer to Harvey. Oh. Christ. The burns. His eyes widened, imagining how much they must have hurt. He tried not to stare, instead swallowing and glancing down.]
Yeah. [He shook his head, just a little and looked back up at Harvey. He held out his right hand for a handshake.] Yeah, I'm Jack.
[Jack hadn't meant to react like that, but it was a shock. He had known about the scars, but the reality? Worse than he had expected. He pushed down the questions and the morbid urge to stare, determined to treat Harvey as normally as he could.]
Yes, it is. Thought it was past time we met.
[He let go of Harvey's hand. Harvey might have noticed the lip-shaped burn on the back of Jack's hand as they shook.]
[Jack watched curiously as Harvey flipped the coin. He had read about it in the file, of course. So Harvey was still using it to make decisions. He wondered what the decision was.
Ah, Tyler's kiss. Jack looked down at the back of his hand as Harvey asked the question, thinking.]
You find that beer? [It was a fair trade, story for story. It would go easier with alcohol, is all.]
[Jack took another swig of beer, then nodded.] Fair enough.[He sighed, looking down at the table. How would he go about this? Should he give Harvey the truth, or gloss it over? Tyler couldn't take control anymore... And he didn't want his inmate thinking he was insane. Gloss over it, it was, he decided
