Food is just about the worst security blanket a girl can have.
Actually, it's sort of one of the best, too. I mean, it can really be both. The key, I've found, is moderation and creativity.
Portions are pretty important. Also, flavor. If you can pack a ton of flavor into a relatively healthy portion-size, you've got it made. Eliminating the evils of over-processed foods is a pretty sweet idea, too.
Tonight is a comfort food night, but not because I'm down and depressed. More because I am content & prone to wanting to stay that way. I've thrown spinach & zucchini & onions & garlic into a big skillet with some wine & cheese sausage. Then I've smothered it all in tomato sauce with spices & fresh basil. Trader Joe's was selling HUGE basil plants for $2.99! So I bought one. I have also cooked a bag of potato gnocchi.
While at Trader Joe's, I also had to purchase an adorably Victorian-esque shopping bag. Ah, impulse buying.
I've just brewed up an epic amount of sweet tea & added plenty of ice, since my apartment is cold during the day & a sauna at night. I have a bottle of chianti (a fat-bellied bottle in a woven straw cozy, like in movie Italian restaurants!). My foods are all done and waiting for me to gobble them up...
As soon as I finish this post, I will pop Kill Bill Vol. 1 into the DVD player (and maybe some Doctor Who after that) & serve up some foods.
Happiness is a warm pasta dish & a gory beautiful movie, sometimes.
Then, post-dinner, I shall decide whether to pop open my bottle of Duchesse de Bourgogne and eat tons of blackberries (the size of my frickin' thumb!) that I bought at the farmer's market.
