The egg came first if you are an adherent of evolution. The chicken came first if you believe in creationism. So, the egg came first if you aren't a dogmatic idiot.
Basically, if evolutionary theory is assumed as true, then there was some sort of proto-chicken that had some but not all of the qualities that make up our definition of "chicken". It had a mutant baby with that final quality, feathers or silly red hat thing or whatever that we would actually classify as chicken. Thus the first chicken was born and gave its decendents all the qualities that define chicken. So, the egg came first. QED.
