Today is the second day of post-graduation funk on campus.
The Maya had their 5 unlucky days in the year - days that were left over from all their intricate calculations and astronomical observations. It was those days when time stopped and one was left to endure in the hopes that they were worthy of the blessings that another year would fall into place.
Also, this weekend is Solstice and I am reminded of the fun I had a whole year ago (or was it two?) sitting by the fire ring on the beach watching the embers of the Winter Solstice wreath float and dance in the fire. I search my brain to try to remember. Has it really been 6 months since the last Solstice, has it really been a whole year since our last beach bonfire? Looking up at the stars - still there... while I've been on this wild temporal ride around and around...
Next door now they're taking a chimp appart - muscle by muscle. It will take them another day or so to get down to bones. I've been setting-up to do the annual inventory in the Labs - figure out if we've still got everything or if some of it wound up as pranks in the dorm rooms or worse...
It's these long days of Summer when I daydream of settling into a hammock somewhere shady with a stack of good books and a cooler full of tasty treats and just watch the sun move across the sky.
