Hello all! I've been lurking for a while, but I have a few (probably redundant) questions. I dedicated this past semester to finding a major I truly wanted to do. I've been flip flopping through majors since I started college, and psychology is what I decided on. I've been interviewing faculty, pestering my advisor with quetions and the like, but I still feel uneasy about some aspects of my decision. I was hoping you could help me?

Some background: I'm a a first semester junior in standing. I recently transferred from a private university to a state school (Slippery Rock University if you're interested. Feel free to laugh at the name). Because I transferred, I only have one semester on my record at the moment. My GPA/QPA was reset to 0 after my credits transferred, don't ask me why. So I stand at a 3.2 GPA right now with the intended major in Psychology with minors in writing and Russian.

I was advised to do a BA degree because I'm minoring in a language. When I found out that BA students aren't required to do an internship/research project, I went to my advisor and found out that they'll accomidate if I want to do it anyway. Do grad programs look at a BA degree and assume the student didn't do a research/internship? My brother said they did, though he's not an authoritative source. Also, because SRU is in a small nowhere town and my home is in the city (Pittsburgh) would it be better to do volunteer work for experience over the summer? I asked my advisor and all she said was that there was places for internships, but relyable transportation is needed to get there. I don't drive, have no car, and don't know the town well enough for busses. So I'm asking, would a BA degree hinder me in any way? I don't want to have to fight professors so I can do the research project and the like. They told me how uncommon it was for BA students to request to do the work, which worried me.

Well that's my story. I'm trying not to stress over next semester needlessly, but I don't want to mess up somewhere in my undergraduate work. Thanks :-)
