It's a new year so I'm gonna be making more entries! Ha! I doubt it.. I do want to do a semi-recap though. Since I've been here in Missouri, I've experienced 3 out of the 4 seasons that I never got to experience in Hawaii. This area is actually very mild when it comes to mainland weather owing to its location both in terms of latitude and also the terrain. This basically means the summers aren't as hot and the winters aren't as cold as some of the more weather extreme states. It makes for a nice transition from a place where the weather never changes throughout the year.
During the time, Rosey's relatives came to visit the house. It went from having just her mom living here to the peak of 9 people living under the one roof, albeit for only a few weeks. Her brother and their family is definitely the more 'likeable' of the two. Her sister is fine, but her kids are kind of spoiled and tend to not be able to take care of their own stuff, much less our stuff. We both passworded all the computers in the house and stowed the Xbox and PS2 in a safe location while they were visiting. All the visitors also had a detrimental effect and if you read Rosey's livejournal, you'd know all about it. Long story short, the septic overflowed and backed up the entire houses drainage systems. Needless to say, it was a hectic 2 weeks during that period.
One of my closest friends since intermediate school days is getting married in March. He's asked me to be his best man, something I am deeply moved by. I've been to very few weddings in my life but the few that I've been to have always had a good impression on me. To be a participant in the ceremony and to stand up for him on his day has got me more excited than I've been in a long time. I've been doing research on it and trying to prepare my toast for the reception early.
Living with Rosey and her mom has been an adventure. Their home is traditional and for those who don't know, very isolated in the woods. I got a chance to traverse the larger part of her land while we were searching for a tree and it gives me new perspective on just how much property there is. And this is a normal sized lot that could have been bigger. Most of it is forest that makes for great logging and indeed has been logged and the profit used to buy small items - like a brand new truck. Country life isn't as huge a shock as I thought it would be but then again, what does the location matter when I spend all day on the internet anyway? :b
Christmas and the New year have come and gone. My biggest resolution this year obviously is to start working. The 'vacation' has been nice but now the bills are coming in from student loans and there's only so much you can do on a fixed income - especially when that income is zero. There's a very good opportunity for a government job and I've begun the application, but I don't think it's available until summer. I used to feel that I wouldn't settle for a minimum salary, but seriously any money is better than no money.
That's the long and the short of it. I'm sure more things happened in between but I can't keep track.. Maybe if I used this journal more often I wouldn't have to do a giant recap, but whatever. :) Here's to a new year.
