The universe is an epic place. Go to astronomy picture of the day to see what I mean. It's too bad I won't be around to see most of it. This tiny iron sphere circling an indescript medium yellow star is are only stake in the whole universe. And we're fighting over such a tiny fraction of it. My professor made a bittersweet comment today. From an astronomer's standpoint, and from the Earth's standpoint, it doesn't care about the human race. We could do our very worst and the world would right itself in say.. 1 million years.. A tiny speck of time compared to how long it's going to live. One billion years from now the Sun will be hot enough to evaporate the ocean. Four billion years after that it expands and swallows the earth whole, vaporizing it in its outer layer of hydrogen and eventually blowing away into stellar dust. Perspective is a great thing. After the sun is dead and a dwarf, Andromeda will collide with the Milky Way to form one super galaxy which will proceed to absorb the rest of the Local group. So here's to the super galaxy of the future. I'll see you there.
