Now, let me just set this up for you so you know just where I am deficient: I'm WASP. Well. Maybe not the P part so much. But let's just say that I've never really spent much time on, nor understood public transportation. In my world, everyone has cars and if they don't have a car, they lease one. When I'm on vacation or going to trainings or ( Read more... )

I am pretty sure it's difficult to get more WASP-y than I am -- where I grew up, "racial tension" is between the Irish and the Italians. And the WASPs where I'm from use public transportation -- it's a train called Metro North, and it gets you from Greenwich, CT, to Manhattan in less time than your car ever could. But I'd like to say this for public transportation, in addition to the fact that I put 2000 miles on my car last year: you never ever have to worry about how much you've had to drink.

Texas really doesn't have particularly great public transportation. That said, I've been giving serious consideration to attempting to take the bus in order to keep my drowsy self off of the road in the mornings when I can't quite seem to snap out of road hypnosis when sitting on MOPAC for an hour.

Of course, if it didn't take nearly twice the time to get downtown from the 'burbs as it does even in traffic... it would be a bigger consideration.
