A farm and a few animals shy of being a compound

After the inspiration of the scripture van from yesterday, I figured I'd post a few pics of downtown Orlando's churches. One church a day should do it, without boring anyone too much. Of course should they arise, the occasional oddity will be included in the posts, whether they have any direct relation or not.

So if you recall the bronzed statue of Jesus from a few postings ago, that was the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando.

I took a bit more interest in the particular church. No particular reason that I selected these guys over any of the other denominations, but one thing that really caught my attention is how huge this church is. Not just the main hall, where services are held, but how much all their corresponding facilities took up of downtown. Easily, one solid block of it. Not a partial block, not a section off of a street. One block. No lie. Google map the following address and zoom in: 106 East Church Street Orlando, fl Just copy and paste it.

Anywho, the below pic is at the corner of Jackson and Rosalind.

Below the sign are these engraved bricks:

The main church:

Beautiful, majestic, whathaveyou. To me, it's stating that it wants to invite in the suffering, the sinners seeking redemption, and be a centralized location where people from all backgrounds can come together and sing praises to the Lord and reaffirm their faith. Where the clergy can be a brother, a father, a mentor to those in need of counselling, spiritual or otherwise.

Yea, well, apparently that's on Sundays and in the morn, because the doors are locked :-\

This smaller chapel is called the Reformation Chapel. Personally, I'd be most interested to see the inside of this smaller church on the same block. Again, doors are locked.

The church grounds also houses a school for kids K-8. That's a trend I'm seeing with church-based schools, and I know of a couple that go through high school, before you argue the point. I digress, my guess on this "trend", as it were, is that the teachers for all their morals and posturing, can't handle teenagers under the full blown effect of hormones. The couple of schools I've seen that allow kids through high-school graduation are Catholic ones. There you have it, nuns and rulers, else you are tossed from their Eden and relinquished to public school. A couple of pics which I believe are part of the school:

Y'all notice how just about all the buildings are similarly bricked?

The following picture is on the perimeter, and if I recall, near the school as well. I'm not sure if it's coincidental that someone spat out that eloquence either because they saw someone attractive across the street by Lake Eola, or if it's some pedo who caught the tweens in their school uniforms. I'd rather not put too much though into it, but I must acknowledge that we are in Florida. Check the FDLE's website for sexual offenders, if you like.
