Well 4 days of avoiding and spoilers on the internet, TV and newspapers and 1 day of completely going into seclusion with the book, I've finally put a rest to the Harry Potter Series! The seventh and final (or so JK Rowling says) took me the whole day to read and it was definitely worth the read!
I thought the book was actually a little slow moving toward the start, but then again I've come to reconize that espcially over the last couple of books that that's her style anyway, but it picked up 1/3 of the way into the book and as always ended with a BANG!
Here's the bits that I HAVE to comment about - in no particular order!
- There was so much death! Poor Hedgewig, but in terms of practical story he died a noble death and there was no space for him anyway.
- Nice Dudley! Never thought I'd see the day!
- His Holeyness George! Gave me a bit of a scare when he came in bloody but loved how he and Fred did and continued to make jokes about it.
- Potterwatch!
- The return of Oliver Wood! Albeit a cameo but still nice to see him back as well as the rest of the original quidditch team.
- Ron killing of the Horcrux
- Ron and Hermonie kissing in the heat of the battle. "Is now really the time..." Well of course it was!
- The return of Percy finally into the family but so sad for the the short reunited family who gains one only to lose another one.
- Harry inheriting the cloak meaning that he was the decedent of the 3rd brother!
- Neville! So brave after starting out not so brave at the start of the series and from almost been a squib to now a Proffessor at Hogworts. Now the question is what are the 4 (Harry, Ron, Ginny, Hermonie - and to come to think of it maybe all the others too like luna and Draco, Semus etc) end up (other than been with child)?
- The Final Battle, All the Loyalty of it all, yes and to a point even Draco (who still remains one of my favourite character and played well in the film but the reciprocal actor)
- Snape! I knew he was good after all! And how sweet was he with his eternal love for Lily and Harry's throwing of the fact in Voldy's face.
- The names of the kids! Although my favourite of course has to be Albus Serverus. Me thinks if there are future books about these kids he'll the "Harry Potter" of the series.
- I loved the little homage to Dumbledore and Snape right at the end where he credits Dumbledore and Snape with the fact that the two Head Ministers were the two bravest wizards he knew. Brought a tear to my eye.
- Still on names though I'm a little disapointed that he didn't use the other names like Sirius or Remus, two practical names that I thought he thought were important people in his life.
- I've said it before I thought that Harry was a Horcux, and I was right! Although I didn't know that Voldermort didn't know either, that was always the peice that I didn't understand, if Voldy knew then why was he always tryign to kill Harry! Now i Know why!
- And finally of cause the other deaths, but the one's I'm most sentimental about is Mad-Eye, Lupin, Fred and Snape. Don't get me wrong I was so sad for Dolby, Colin and Tonks as well!
Okay that's it for the review/best bits spoilers from me. Now I've spend the whole of yesterday almost continously reading HP7, so now I HAVE to do something more productive say like... STUDY :P Okay I'm off to do that now.. there's way too much readings and "self-directed learning" to do Argh!
