Switchin' It Up

Jun 08, 2009 18:45

I'm revising my reading list. Since Brave New World has been sitting in my purse, unread for the past two to three days, I've basically given up on it for this summer. So, I have also given up on any other "classic" books. I'll leave those for when my mind thinks "Hey, shouldn't you be going to school now?" in late August. In their place, I've added Eldest, Eragon's sequel (of which I fortuitously bought an autographed copy at Half-Price Books!), and Rumors, The Luxe's sequel.

1.) Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson (New York City)
2.) Looking For Alaska by John Green (Surprisingly, *not* Alaska...actually Alabama)
3.) 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson (Oh, man...London, Paris, Rome, Copenhaggen, Greece, Amsterdam...I think that's it)
4.) A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire (Oz, FTW!)
5.) What-the-Dickens by Gregory Maguire (No frickin' clue) (Note: still no frickin' clue where it took place. Just some really small town, presumably in the US)
6.) The Luxe by Anna Godbersen (Late 19th century NYC)
7.) The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson (New Jersey? New York? Pennsylvania? I can't remember) (Note: Turns out it took me to California for a couple chapters but mostly took place in Saratoga, NY. I was really happy to find that out.)
8.) Nobody's Princess by Esther Friesner (Ancient Greece/Troy)
9.) London, The Novel by Edward Rutherfurd (a rather imposing looking book set, I'm guessing, in London)
10.) Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman (No frickin' clue)
11.) Rumors by Ana Godbersen (Sequel to The Luxe, so late 19th Century Manhattan, again)
12.) Eldest by Christopher Paolini (Now that I've finished Eragon, I feel the need to know what happens to him...especially since I've found a new fictional boyfriend...Not Eragon. I generally don't go for the protagonist.)
13.) The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory (Tudor England yay!)
14.) Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams (this one may trump Oz...because I'm goin' to outer space)
15.) China Road by Rob Gifford (the only title as obvious as London, The Novel...I'm trekking across China)
16.) An Arsonist's Guide To Writers' Homes in New England by Brock Clarke (I stand corrected. I have to start looking at my notes before I type stuff up...I'm gonna go ahead and say New England)
17.) The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz (It's one of those islands south of Florida...maybe the Dominican Republic? I'll let you know for sure when I know for sure)
18.) Eragon by Christopher Paolini (a made-up kingdom where there be dragons and magic...how have I not finished this one yet??? Ugh! I started in, like, '06 or something)
19.) Really Bad Girls of the Bible by Liz Curtis Higgs (We're going way far back and way East...well, not like the Far East...more like the Middle East)
20.) Ithaka by Adele Geras (Ancient Greece...takes place at the same time as The Odyssey)
21.) Pirates! by Celia Rees (The Caribbean, I believe...I don't need to read all of it, just finish it from a couple years ago)(Also, Africa)
22.) MuggleNet.com's Harry Potter Should Have Died by Ben Schoen and Emerson Spartz (Not a fiction book, more of an opinion book which found new and interesting ways of pissing me off)

So, let's see. Yesterday was Grant's graduation from St. Ignatius along with my cousin, PJ. Everyone else said it was a really quick ceremony, but Maria and I were sitting in the theater just dying while all the boys' names were being called. True, it was nothing compared to the College of Arts and Science at Miami, but over 300 names is just a lot to sit through in a dark theater when you're already tired.

And, before I forget, I had the weirdest omelet at The Cheesecake Factory. Don't get me wrong. It was delicious. I don't think they make anything but delicious food, but the eggs were...too perfect. They weren't exactly processed to look that way like at Bob Evan's or something, but there was something Stepford Wives creepily perfect about them. ::Shudders::

I'm also realizing that I need to get some new icons as I will no longer be needing the ones I've titled "english major" and "oxford circus." I may not even need "solitaire" anymore...though, I can't part with my hockey one. It's been around too long.

Anyway, time to back to my reading and whatnot...Whatnot, here, refers to hiding the fact that I've bought more books and also cleaning my room. It's still no where near being close to done.

End Transmission.
