I'm wearing contacts!

Oct 19, 2009 18:17

My eyes feel super funny and it hurts a bit when I blink, but after 15 minutes I finally got em both in! This was my third try, after using the sample pair at the doctor's office some time ago and then putting them on again today to make sure they fit (I apparently almost scratched my cornea and a new pair with a better fit will be coming in later). They actually came in a couple weeks ago, but I've been a bit too busy(/lazy/nervous) to pick them up. But I got em, and they're in, and...yeah. I have to wear them for a couple hours today, then wear them an additional hour each day, then pick up my new pair ASAP when they come in (my doc doesn't like the fit of my current ones). This is really, really weird. XD

EDIT: Got em out in under 5 minutes, w00t! Big difference from at the doctor's office when it was an hour total. XD

Big congrats also go to both Tom and Alex, who have both secured jobs with books! I am positive that I will be getting a job at Blockbuster or something and thus making everything all wrong. Because the perverse cycle requires completion.

In other news, last weekend in Toronto was nice, and divinity_123 was there. Later, anyway. Spent Friday evening with Ben, Alex and Tom where we watched Orgazmo (OH GOD GET IT IT'S TOM HUNG AND BEN CHAPLESKI AS ORGAZMO AND CHODA BOY) and Troll 2, much hanky-panky ensued, taxi'd with Alex to my aunt's for 1:00, went to bed a couple hours later, woke up at 6 the next day because Sara's blackberry alarm went off an hour early. (Was awesome finding out we were driving down with the twins Sara and Rosie because they were going with my cousin for a camp reunion). We spent the car-ride sleeping/watching iCarly for my little cousin (cute show, annoying actors). My aunt and I walked around to the nearby strip-mall while my uncle took Emily swimming, and I dragged her into a nerd-shop where the guy at the counter said "coolbeans," which was fucking awesomesauce. (Only person aside from Ben I've seen say it). Had a nice dinner at the Bar Mitzvah boy's house, only really talked to Benji when we were in his room talking technology at the end. XD

On Sunday we went to the CN Tower, which was pretty cool. I'd been looking forward to standing on the glass floor again, and this time I was fearless! It was awesome, if cold outside. Then we rushed over to the mall, got lost getting to the food court so I could grab some KFC before going to meet Divinity! Met up outside the movie theatre, headed back to the food court, gave him a little something I made for him and we just talked for two straight hours. It certainly was strange, but really, really neat and interesting. Funnily enough, he's the third SPPfer I've met, along with Tezza and Zerodius, and coincidentally, all four of us have been involved in some way or another with the wonder that was Saphira_Thorn. Mostly we've all been an editor or co-writer with her (and we've all shared similar thoughts on the matter XD), but it's just...weird. XD

Went back to the restaurant my sister and cousin almost burned down and got to sleep in my grandfather's hotel room again that night (it was a two-roomer so I got to stay up watching Batman Forever (loooove Jim Carrey) and Supersize Me in the big ol' hide-a-bed, better than the sleeping bag or even cot I would have otherwise used had I stayed with my parents). Monday morning we went to the small service in the synagogue (the entire affair was no more than 22 people at any point in time) before driving back home.

Also finally went to that book launch on the 8th, which was good because I accidentally went a month early before, so being there on time was great. Took me some time to get there because despite having found it last time, this time I only half-remembered the directions and ended up going the wrong way down the street, so I had to ask the guy at Chapters how to get to Paragraph Books. XD Still, despite being about 20 minutes late it hadn't started anyway, so I stood/sat on the floor (since there were about 9 seats), talked with Kasha briefly and waited until they were good to go.

An Indian man went first, reading some poems from his published anthology. They were actually really good, and I enjoyed the ones about mosquitoes and shitting. XD
Geoffrey, a tanned, messy unshaven guy with a goatee in his twenties went next, the sides of his head shaved with a funny tuff on top. He had smoked up beforehand, and so was struggling to read his own work (all about getting stoned, no less). It was interesting, and it was sort of...impressive he could put himself together enough to publish that, in Jason's words. He seems like one of those writers you know a bit about, only to find out some years later that he OD'd or committed suicide or something.
James was third, not with a novel but a book of his theories to explain coincidences, such as seeing someone you know in a foreign country, though habits, impulses and social patterns, which I couldn't agree with. He lost me and I just started blankly for some time.

Jason, the man I had come for was next - I'd met up with his girlfriend Kasha at my university orientation, and she told me about her boyfriend's book launch when I told her of my interest in Creative Writing. It's a book of short stories, called Unfictions by Jason Price Everett, which he'd been trying to publish for about 10 years. I couldn't really tell you much about it, because it's just so...woah. He wasn't afraid to be gory and shocking and strange, tell you that.
Lastly, Fredrick Bryson read from his novel with his thick Southerner accent, standing stiff and tall, one hand on his hip. It was about revolution and conspiracy of French Canada.
Overall, very interesting experience, I think I'd be most likely to read one of the first two books read, but I haven't any idea what they were called or the full names of their authors. ^^;

Before British Literature Wednesday Esther (my one good uni friend thus far) and I went to this adorable little diner she's been lusting after for ages, Petita Potata. I finished at 4 and we started at 6, so we spent the break getting there, which turned out to be less than fast. Thankfully it was a nice walk, BUT IT STARTED TO FUCKING SNOW. IN OCTOBER. AGH. Anyway the place turned out to be right near Joy Toyz/Image-In, so we could easily have subwayd there. XD So we got our food, ate some delicious fries while standing in the cold for the bus, arrived only maybe 5 minutes late, burgers smelling up the nearby area, then ate the yummy things during our break. Sooo worth it, even if they were a bit cold - next time we'll be smarter with out timing/we're going for coffee or something to study for our mid-term. <3

I had my Music of the Beatles mid-term last week. Ben kinda-sorta helped me study/play Beatles Rock Band with me (I can play on medium guitar, and I may have pulled a Ringo in that I was playing righty on the drum-set when I may be stronger on lefty lol) on Tuesday after I finished school, then he stopped by on Thursday between my classes right before the mid-term. So it went...meh. Could have been better. I struggled with numerous questions and had trouble coming up with facts for each song played (and who sang two of the non-Beatles songs). I got 30/40 on the quiz, which may be upped since Carl Perkins can possibly be counted as an influence on the Beatles within their inner circle, so I should do okay again.

Spent Friday at Ben's, which was successful. Met up with my family (minus Becky) and grandparents for Chinese, and everyone got to meet and enjoy Ben (funny how both our family dinners have been Chinese XD). We then went to Ben's friend's Halloween party, who coincidentally turned out to be roommates with Rivky (who invited Noa, Ryan and Jesse from high school and Nathanial from MoL), so much fun was had.
Also we decided against going as Jughead and a schoolgirl and went as Paul and Linda McCartney. XD

Which was just as well because he got his haircut for the Disney World interview the next day, and he now has very little on top of his head and now he's clean-shaven, so he doesn't quite resemble Paul anymore. More like he's joining the Navy, tbh. It's a very new look on him - not bad. :3 (EDIT: And holy shit straight out of the shower. Like 8D)

So picked him up, picked up Alex and Tom and went to watch some British stuff at my house before heading over for an awesome sleepover at Tom's. Ben wasn't sure if he'd stay, but he did, which made me happy because otherwise afkejbwa. Plus we stayed up till 4am playing Who Would You Fuck? in Tom's mom's room, so that was cool. We had french toast and mistakes for breakfast.

Today I bumped into Jen on the bus and we had a nice time talking, then in English Composition we were talking about argumentative/persuasive essays. Needing examples for arguments we may have had, I mentioned a slight pickle I'd had on Saturday night. When it came to a vote, my story was decided on.

So we talked about how when my friends were over, Becky was going to a Sweet Sixteen to attend. She was supposed to have a lift there. Apparently she didn't, and while we were watching Black Adder she came down and asked for a lift. I was reluctant to leave my guests, and leave them to watch Michael (aka do something if somehow something happened to him while he was glued to the tv set). I didn't know the address and don't know that area very well, and then Alex started guilting Becky about how she can walk/bus considering the closeness. Becky was upset by this, Tom was like "you know how you always thought your sister would like Ben, but not me? Well, I don't think I like your sister" which made me lol. Finally I said I'd drive her if she had the Mapquest directions, but she was in such a huff that she just left on her own in the "night" (it was 7pm).

So Sunday my parents gave me the whole scolding for that (plus I got a parking ticket - thanks for telling me when it's safe to park, gang!), then I pretty much got a second guilt trip for it in class today. XD;

And now I think I'm going to update my iPod and work on the Three Couples One F-Buddy script for my class. Though like I hardly even know half these people anymore. And I don't think this can be anything but a play or television series, and I think I need help so @.@

EDIT: God a good e-mail while I was in the shower. Feelin good, fingers crossed.
