mmkay, for someone that actually pays ATTENTION to this journal, namely not even me, I have a question. I want to make a customized layout for my writing journal (not that I'm at all good with images or anything of the sort), and I need help doing that. I know there is a community that you can request to get one, but...I'm not sure they'd accept

Uh, it depends on how customised you want your journal layout to be. The super spiffy ones are (unfortunately) reserved for paid accounts. But you can edit your current layout with ... stuff.

I'm on the S1 system, using the Generator template, and with modifying codes, I managed to change my layout. I've been meaning to change it again, but you're welcome to take a gander at my current layout.

Right, it all depends on what kind of modifications you want to make. Pre-made layouts are available to community members at spiralbound_lj, of course, you can just study the templates (uh, if you know CSS and HTML) and adjust it to your preferences. There is another older (and I don't know if it's still functioning) comm that provides templates: cressidaslayout. There is an anime layout request community at animeljlayouts. Their sister LJ is a manga layout request comm.

Of course, you can find tidbits and images and explanations at various comms such as howto, and everything_lj. Of course, there are more comms and LJs than these ones I've named, doing a "layout" search of interests here at Livejournal.com might work best. Does that help?
