I didn't even manage to make it a full 12 hours after returning from St. Louis before the requests for photographic evidance of evility were rolling in. Amazing!
You'd think Jen and I had a *habbit* of doing
crazy costume stuff or something!** To be sure she has the greater halloween costume history, while I have the history of doing
skimpy costumes at anime conventions covered! Want to see
more of Dena proving she really was a MAJOR
anime geek once upon a time?
Ok, I'm all done with showing off the evidance of my antics from years gone by! Thankfully most of the good photos from AI 2004 & 2001 are in print form, and thus semi-safe! And ALL other evidance is quite nicely not uploaded to public forums!
** Note this costume has been formally retired, sorry boys and girls- requires too damn much effort to pull off!! Though I did enjoy being taller then Jen for a day!
I also uploaded some pics for my lj. So no more iconless status for the Dena. Drats. I gave in to the teeming millions. :-) Now to figure out how people change these things on different posts.
I know a lot of people want to hear all about the trip last weekend, and I really will put some of that up here- but I have a paper to write by 4:30 tonight, and my hands are really bothering me today. So it'll appear when it appears. :-)
Suffice it to say:
1) By the grace of corticosteroids I actually got my voice back Friday afternoon!! And was feeling better!!
2) Met up with the guys at the house at Bergfried... Antics proceeded in short order! Mini-masterblaster tried mightily to take masterblaster out... but alas was unsuccessful. We will be looking forward to having a rematch! (with plenty of training in the mean time!)
3) Dena was educated in the art of beer that actually tastes good! It exists! *eats crow about beer being a generally gross substance* AND got to try a couple of varieties of Woodchuck previously unknown. Granny Smith anything rocks!! Including hard cider.
4) Kung Fu Hustle is AWESOME!!! Go watch it!! DO IT!!
5) Myke has impressive skillz at making extremely quick and yummy breakfast food!
That ends the easy, simple scheduling of the weekend. After that there was lots of splitting by twos and getting from point A to point B via route C. It was pretty cool overall. I really enjoyed seeing places that I read about all the time, and in general enjoyed not having to DO anything for a while... Ambeling about looking at cool stuff is one of my definitions of a good time! The party was not as expected, but a good time was had regardless... The man has a projector in his basement!! Move theater set up with screen, couches with unobstructed viewing and sourround sound... Drool. Ghostbusters and Army of Darkness never looked so good!
Sunday Jen did more yoga, I got to go to a different UU, which was pretty cool- awesome service! Myke took me on an expadited tour of cool places to see, including a 15 min run through the museum. I got to see 3 mummies!!! Real mummies, not something related to Halloween! And A really awe inspiring sculpture inspired by the Holicost.
I found it noteable that of the 3 museum pieces that have truly struck me the deepest, 2 of them were inspired from the Holicost. One was in third grade at the Des Moines Art Museum and included a single, tattered, girl's pink ballet slipped hanging from a ladder asending into nothing and below it was only filth and destruction. It was haunting. I still remember it quite clearly (despite bad description), that speaks in and of itself. The second was a fire sculpture (?) at the Tuscon Art Museum a year ago last November. It was an area that had been recreated as the after effects of the savage fire that had destroyed half of the mountain the previous summer. They had chairs placed near the exibit, and it was a good thing. It was stunning in intensity. And the last was last weekend with the exibit in St. Louis. Amazing. The horror of what has been done is beyond me. I am glad there are artists such as that one who can create items which invoce that horror- and thus prevent us from ever forgetting.
I spent the afternoon wandering thru a ton of little shops and had a generally great time. I managed to go in a shop with tons and tons of very cool buttons and left with purchasing only 1!! That took control people!!
Now I am exercizing some more control and ceasing the rehash of the trip. It was awesome, it was really great to see the guys again, it was just an excellant trip. Only suggestion for future road trips: No yoga training/ actually plan stuff out a bit less chaotically!
I had a great time- thanks guys!!
(and yes I will make good on the plethora of IOU's Marcus is stock piling!)
Note: I'm not spell checking- hope you survived!
