[Frank doesn't know precisely how to interpret this. The affection of a mother is something foreign to him and as a soldier, he wants to point out that the boy Rose is dreaming of is certainly far too old to be talking of such meaningless things as "monsters". However, it's the name 'Roy' that stands out in his mind.]

Who is 'Roy'?

My husband, Roy Campbell.

[stoicism]

Campbell does not have a wife.

[psycheup]

Of course he does. We've been together for years. Maybe you're thinking of another Roy Campbell...?

[stoicism]

The world is not prepared for more than one Roy Campbell.

[psycheup]

[laughs] I have to agree on that one.

Are you from the past? I married Roy in 2009.

[stoicism]

Two-thousand and nine... [He murmurs, repeating the numbers over in his head. Although he's largely illiterate, numbers are something he knows. 2009; a two, three zero-- two zeroes, and a nine. That seems like a very long time off for him.]

I met Campbell on December 27th, 1970.

[psycheup]

More than forty years ago, then. Are you an old friend of his from the Army?

[She pauses and scrutinises him.] No, maybe not. You look a little too young for that.

[stoicism]

We are in the same unit, your assumption is correct.

[psycheup]

...How old are you?

[stoicism]

...I cannot give you anything specific but my commander treats me as an adult.

[psycheup]

I see. [Oh, there will be words with Roy if she ever gets home. ...Or if he comes here.]

I'm Rosemary. [She attempts to smile again.] It's interesting, to get the chance to talk to someone from someone from decades ago.

[stoicism]

...There are not many people here from my time. I have grown accustomed to speaking to those from the future.
