Fan Mix

Return to Wonderland - Writer Mix - Actual Download Link

I split this up into individual dls, a zip or a rar, depending on preference.  PLEASE REVIEW!  Let me know what you think!

I saw some fan-mixes, and I kinda wanted to do one, because I never have before.  I didn’t want to use modern artists and songs so much, I wanted more out of way, folk kind stuff, but with some more recent songs mixed in.  This is my first mix, based on my fanfic.  I have another one of random songs coming.  Anyway, I hope you like it!

PS.  There is no cover for this, I do not have adobe because it is very, very expensive, and I see so many comments where people complain about making covers, that I’m honestly scared to even try.  I’ll have to sign up for a class at the local college or something!

1.      You’ll Be in my Heart - Celtic Women

This song is based on how I think Alice would feel in the first part of the story.  She has a child she’d unfamiliar with, but feels protective of, and loves.

“Come, stop your crying,

It’ll be alright

Just take my hand,

Hold it tight.”

2.      Baby Mine - Allison Krauss

I love this rerecording by Allison Krauss of the Disney classic.  Once again, my version of Alice’s feelings towards her daughter in the face of her mother’s, less than nice, letter.

“If they knew sweet little you,

They’d end up loving you too.

All those same people who scold you,

What they’d give, for the right to hold you.”

3.      Once Upon a December - “Anatasia”

I think this one is good for when Alice reminisces and observes Margaret playing.

“Things I almost remember,

And a song someone sings

Once upon a December.”

4.      My Only My Own - Heather Dale

This one just seemed appropriate for both Alice and the Hatter, maybe more in mind of him singing it?

“Where have you gone, my only, my own?

How far have you flown from me?

The work of our hands built a beautiful ship,

How could I begrudge you the sea?”

5.      Firebird’s Child - SJ Tucker

Originally, Firia had an entirely different role and purpose and then fell prey to showing the reader just how malicious the Duchess really was.  She was intended to be a Phoenix in the tradition of the lion and the unicorn, under a perspective spell of her own.

“Wonders of the water, air, and earth are all the same.

You’ll never know wonders like the wonders of the flame.

Freely fly as what you are and never walk in shame.

You must not fear to blister if you live a life in flame.”

6.      When You’re Evil - Voltaire

Since Disney has the monopoly on the best villain songs, I couldn’t find one for the Duchess that was what I wanted entirely.  And since I assume most people who get these mixes are really up to date on their Disney, I wanted to throw in one of my favorite artists who has some great work.  He also works on the Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

“The Devil tips his hat to me,

I do it all because I’m evil.

And I do it all for free,

Your tears are all the pay I’ll ever need.”

7.      Walking Man’s Road - The Last Unicorn

This song is for when Alice or Margaret and the Son are traveling because the Underland is, at this point, kind of desolate and sad still.  If you haven’t seen “The Last Unicorn,” it’s a very trippy animated feature.

“I’m hungry, weary, but I cannot lay me down,

The rain comes, dreary, but there’s no shelter I have found.

It will be a long time ‘til I find my abode.

Here I am, on man’s road, walking man’s road, walking man’s road.”

8.      Now That I’m a Woman - The Last Unicorn

This seems to me like a great song for the scenes when Alice is reunited with the Hatter and remembers him differently.

“Once when I was searching,

Somewhere out of reach, far away,

In a place I could not find, nor heart obey,

Now that I’m a woman, everything is changed.”

9.      Girl in the Garden - SJ Tucker

I thought of this song for the time when Alice and the Hatter are imprisoned and Margaret is forced to be in the garden of Crims instead of saving them.

“Then I fear that my dear will be gone,

Shed a tear for the girl in garden

For all of her years in the garden,

The girl in the garden and I.”

10.  Vitus Dance - Gaia Consort

Gaia Consort has some great music, so I’m choosing a dance sequence with this song because it’s wacky and weird, and Celtic and modern.

“Feel the starlight crawling in your bones,

Does it make you tremble in your hips and your fingers?

Life’s too long to spend it all alone.

Life a glass and dance the dance, the kisses, they linger.”

11.  Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright

In my opinion, the best recording of Hallelujah.  I loved it when they used the song in “The Watchmen,” except for I couldn’t stand the singer!  Anyway, same type of scene…

“And remember when I moved in you,

The holy dark was moving too

And every breath we drew was hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.”

12.  Drawing Down the Moon - Gaia Consort

This is my alternate to Hallelujah.  I just like this song, because it’s got some coded language and it’s sensual and the drum beat, and some of the lines really stood out.

“So much time we circle the sky with one wing beating,

Looking for a light that’s true.

All our lives we’re chasing the night like it’s never ending

You the sun and I the moon.”

13.  Long Long Time Ago (Hace Mucho Mucho Tiempo) - Pan’s Labyrinth

Pan’s Labyrinth instrumentals are very beautiful, so I wanted to end with them.
