I've had that line in my head for WEEKS (rightfully so... haha)
What a day, what a day. What a week... what a MONTH. Wait, wait... WHAT A YEAR! This time last year I was gearing up to haul ass to Montreal to start in on my first year German course that I'd have already missed 10 hours of. This year, I've just finished my second year German course and anxiously waiting for exams to be over.
So, I realize no one likes to hear people brag about grades, and I've had a few not-so-great ones this year - two sorta screwed up midterms, one mediocre paper... generally not fun.
I worked so hard on my major research papers this semester... Especially on my one for 20th Century European History, as it was on the Weimar years, which I hope to pursue further. I poured my blood sweat and tears into that paper. When I got it back with a high A, I was impressed. What really got me, though, was when my TA said that it was the highest grade of all the 50 papers she marked.
I may gripe and complain about the drugery of academic obligations, but something like that really makes it feel alright. Grades are so ridiculously arbitrary, but when someone who is almost finished grad school and is also specializing in German history says that about something I worked hard to produce, it just... feels indescribably good.
It helps to calm the neuroses that have been surfacing from the non-academic aspects (rather, aspect - one specific one) of my life.
Mmmm, what I'd do to not have to study and to just sit on my balcony with Mary-Jane and Nick Drake.
