Should I lie to political pollsters?

Idle pondering today. When the Conservative Party of Canada phones me up and asks if they can count on my vote on May 2nd, my twitch-response is "Absolutely you can count on my vote . . . to go to the person most likely to defeat your local talking-point-spewing robot ( Read more... )

I do not know if it is true or not, but there is a belief that many people will vote just to be on the winning side. So if polls show the cons are way ahead, they will vote for the cons just to be a winner. Thus, influencing polls this way could be counterproductive.

I do like the idea of monopolizing the time of people going door to door, though.
