another post from me, as i'm one of the few writing on here as the clock strikes midnight...

i thought i'd show you all some pictures from our paris trip, whether or not you really want to see them - at this time exactly one year ago, we were on an air france flight into the city of light, where we spent 8 salmonella-stricken days - the last vacation we will ever have as a childless couple, as we got the news a month later that S was with child (hmm, maybe there was something in that cream sauce besides food-borne pathogens?) - despite my well-documented excesses as a photographer (6 rolls on japan trip 1, 7 on japan trip 2 & england trip, 10 on spain trip), we only had 2.5 rolls during our stay, mostly because i was in no shape to hold a camera for the most part - and what few came out were mostly landscape shots, as neither of us felt particularly photogenic - nevertheless, i thought some of the best pictures i've ever taken have come from these rolls, and i always wanted to show them off - and the nostalgia of the day made it seem all too appropriate - so now...

people swarm to the basilique du sacre-coeur in montmartre, but hardly anyone spends the 5 euros to climb to the top of it - their loss, as this photo came from it just as the sun went behind the cloud...

we've all seen the arc de triomphe and my photos don't give it any more justice, but on the other hand i rather like this photo taken of the stairway you descend from once you've climbed it and are ready to go...

beautiful gray paris on the last day of 2004 - people may say its tacky, but i love how the sacre-coeur is visible almost everywhere you go - taking a photo of it while atop the towers at notre dame - yeah, i'm sure nobody's ever done that before...

just as i'm sure nobody's ever taken a photo of the seine, the left bank, and the eiffel tower while atop the notre dame towers - what can i say, i just wanted to show them off...

once again, there are billions of pictures of the chartres cathedral online, but i ended up liking my pictures taken in and around the old town, like this symmetrical one...

and saving the money shot for last - no, don't get worried, this isn't a scene from a french porno film, its the eiffel tower taken from directly underneath the shaft...

hmm, i was going to take up the rest of this post with a detail of our first time that S and i have had together since A-chan's birth, a visit to the newly renovated high museum of art complete with lunch at their trendy restaurant table 1280, but its getting pretty late and i don't know how many readers will even be interested in hearing about it - comment if you are and i'll give you my impressions - but for now i'll just say HAIL SANTA! and head for bed...
