because rebl1969 asked nicely (and since photos of their cute kid just brightened up her & mehetabel's journals, i'm about to show off A-chan once again - its friday night and she's asleep so hopefully no distractions will occur...i'm also finally uploading japan pictures too, so if my exhaustive diaries made you wonder "did he really go, or did he just make this shit up?", proof is on the way...

but first, a question that i need your help on - i went to a taqueria near my workplace today, a little shop partnered with a chevron gas station that's delightfully called mr. taco, and talked with the shopkeep while i was waiting for my torta - he's a nice guy, originally from mexico but living in the states for the past 15 years - his english sounded pretty good to me, but he assured me that he can't really speak well outside of typical restaurant chitchat - he told me he screws up verb tenses a lot, but i told him americans butcher that regularly as well so he shouldn't feel bad - but then he brought to my attention the little area on the far end of the countertop where he keeps jalapenos, limes, sliced onions, etc. of course these are to be used to adorn your order, but he asked me "what's the word in english to describe that area? a friend of mine told me that its something like [i couldn't understand what he said, but it sounded something like "goodies"], but when i try to point it out to customers they don't understand me" - a simple enough request, but i really couldn't think of the word he was looking for - they're not "sides", and the only other word i could think of at the time was "accompaniments" but surely there's a better word than that - since that time i thought of "garnishes", but that's not really an everyday word, is it? help me out, people! i told him i'd give him a good word for it the next time i visit...

i just finished listening to the julian cope mix that hedorah sent my way, which was great! i've heard a number of his albums before, but i think i needed a well-chosen overview of his career to really make me notice how much ground he's covered - excellent stuff! curiously i think i like his orchestral pop side the best, if the sampler is an indication ("planetary sit-in" and "elegant chaos", and the krautrock reference of the former didn't hurt)...and i followed through on my word from last week, and i've now got the entirety of the dust-to-digital discography in my living room, just begging for a 7-hour listening session...

i finally added my schools on my userinfo page - yes, i spent 13 years in a baptist school in suburban georgia & lived to write this journal entry to you tonight...apparently there's only one other person in all of lj-land who attended said school, which is not too surprising...

and lastly, this meme which has gone around, the one where you list a sentence from each month of this past year - i thought this would be a good entry into finding out just what you're getting into for recent friend additions or those curious...

january: Coming from the city of Coke, I abhor the drink and its globalizing effects, yet here I am downing it on the streets of Paris in order to survive.
february: Nothing really going on in my life as of late, just listening to music and watching things on TV and such [ah, in retrospect i was such a secretive bastard, not telling you about the all-day morning nausea the wife was going through at the time, instead writing mundane things like this]
march: "my minister tried to console me, but that book you got makes m-m-me so holy"
april: Just one last thought to think of: I will be the paragon of masculinity for one human being on this planet in the months to come.
may: Hi everyone, we're back from Japan (or, my favoritest place in the whole world).
june: I was looking extremely forward to this get-together, and they were all 3 very bright, charming, and nice people, but I came out of it afraid that they'd mourn their poor friend S who abandoned her country to marry some jackass on the other side of the world.
july: And seeing as how the three of us were destined to be in a small room with no clothing, we decided to introduce ourselves.
august: "Oh my God, those people are wearing their bathroom slippers!"
september: Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you in her internet debut...A-chan!
october: I almost thought for a second "are we sure this is ours?" until I realized that I saw her entrance into this world & knew that'd have to be one super magic trick if she wasn't.
november: I'm a motherfucking daddy now and you'll hear nothing but tales of my beautiful baby for the remainder of my posts on this planet, and you'll enjoy it or you'll unfriend me now, dig?
december: "Go ahead, ma'am"

of course i've written so rarely this year that virtually all of these quotes are still on my most current page - ah well, the above pretty much sums up 2005 to me...

alright alright, pictures coming up!
