i understand, i feel pretty awkward talking to people i don't really know, other than just saying "hi"--sunburned hand nearly stayed at my apt the last time they came through town, and i had a really good time hanging out with them at drunken unicorn last year, so i thought i'd go up to them and chat--and they recognized me, but otherwise it was like the social equivalent of tumblin' tumbleweeds...hey, it should be obvious i'm a bit of a social outcast, i am a record collector after all!
yeah, randy and moses really came through on this and they deserve a lot of praise for it--i was especially impressed that they were able to keep everything generally on track, even considering the delayed start times--and like you say, so many of these people have never come before and they probably won't be coming back anytime soon either...
don't feel bad that you missed the last half of sunburned, the first half was the best because that's where moloney got on drums and made everything groove--i am sorry you missed some of NNCK though, but i understand those are the breaks...i was at that same magik markers/double leopards/sonic youth show (wait, i think i saw you there too) and i saw them the year previous in athens playing with astral blessing (a sunburned offshoot, in a way)--i'd never buy any of their albums and i wouldn't go out of my way to see them, but i do find them fun to watch--i just find it curious that so many people have picked them as "the band of the future", as one guy i talked to sincerely said...
and yeah, charalambides were great--they hardly ever play anymore, so i had the fear that it might not gel the way it used to, but i was happy to see that i had no reason to fear...
I also don't see magik markers as any band of the future. I'm afraid I see them more as upper middle class white girls who enjoy noodling around on instruments, while pretending to be political. I guess that's a bit harsh?
I must confess that I, too, am a bit socially awkward. I think you're right... it must be a result of buying records.
