I woke up this morning around 3:30 and couldn't go back to sleep. I just realized it must have been my subconscious notifying me that today is my LJ's 5th birthday! Let's reflect on where I was back then:

On April 5, 2002, I:
- was still single, albeit engaged
- was living in Atlanta with geebs and JS, a veritable bachelor geek Ground Zero ( Read more... )

I used to hate burriots, had gone to Willy's ages ago with some friends and did the whole thing where "I have no clue what to order, tell me what to order" and it ended up being a bunch of stuff I didn't like (like lettuce, etc). (not anyone's fault but mine, really, since I should've just read the menu and ordered it myself)

Mom used to do that kinda thing with me where when I was a kid she'd order my food for me (and I didn't get a say) and I just had to deal with whatever it was, even if I didn't like it. I ended up hating quite a few places (like subway) for that reason until I realized years later that no, I don't have to get lettuce and tomatos on my sammich if I really don't like them! What a concept! :)

But now I have found that I do in fact like burritos! I prefer Qdoba as far as chains go, but their rice *is* a little bit overpowering, like you mentioned once. Chipotle is still my second fav, there's one over on the west end of Mansell that does something different with their meat than the other Chipotle chains, which ends up making their burritos incredible (imo!).

Ahh, I am in a burrito mood now. Makes me hungry!

It does seem that consistency jumps around at these places, but I think I honestly like it that way. At least it keeps it from being totally homogenous, I guess. Or maybe I just say that because I think I've found all the good locations...

As for today's trivia, I learned that burritos were originally prepared for field-workers (a la poboys) and they acquired their name because, like a pack mule, they were loaded up. As "burrito" literally translates as "little donkey" (so there goes one urban legend)...
