1. I've been lax about commenting the last five days or so, but bear with me - I'll get there. It's been a ridiculously busy week so far.
And I'm forgetful on top of it.
It reaches from Beale Street to Washington Square.
And once you get in it
To go where you're going,
You simply get out, 'cause you're there.'>2. Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE having a hot-water dispenser at my desk? You know how they have those tiny, 4-cup coffee makers you can pick up? Well, I found this little thing that's about the same size that I tucked into a corner of my desk. I just fill the little holding tank with water, close the lid, push the little button and about 90 seconds later, voilá! Hot water. It has made my day countless times since I picked it up - ON SALE, EVEN - way back in January. I just keep a few bottles filled with water back here, and any time I want or need it, I can make myself some instant cocoa or a cup of chai, even a bowl of oatmeal or instant mac-n-cheese. Best. Office Supply. EVER.
3. Is it really only Wednesday? Good grief.
4. Having a bit of fun doing some beta-reading again for
sarcastrow; just a couple small pieces to warm up a bit before the entry piece for
hp_porninthesun, which is coming up.
5. Which reminds me - I intended at some point to create a journal in which to post my own fanfic writings. I had one, but then thought it might be easier to make it a community so I wouldn't have to keep logging out of my journal and then into a different one. I really only write Harry Potter fanfic, and I DO have it posted
here. If you're interested, please feel free to check it out. And if you check it out, PLEASE let me know what you liked and what you didn't; few people ever comment, so I never know what worked and what, if anything, didn't. In addition, I have a multi-chaptered next gen fic, completely AU (since DH shot it to hell), but I haven't posted it there because it needs work*, and I haven't had the time to devote to it, unfortunately.
* as in, it needs a plot, because I apparently SUCK at such things...and also, I just need to rewrite some of it so it all flows a bit better.
6. Kiddo has a school carnival on Friday evening. *groan* He's properly excited about it, of course, so we'll take him and let him goof around for an hour. It's always such a madhouse, and I hate it because people are rude, and I don't mean the kids! Some of these parents...good Christ, it makes you wonder how their children have made it as far as they have.
7. We want to send the boy to camp this summer, but OHMYGOD, HAVE YOU SEEN THESE PRICES?! Shit, we could take all three of us camping for less than half these amounts. I am a tightwad, yes, but I think $400 for one week of camp is absolutely the most outrageous thing I have ever heard. That is half a month's rent, and that's not even the most expensive we found! We don't even spend that much on a month's worth of food, for pity's sake.
We did find the camp *I* went to a few times when I was his age, and it's still around and still very cheap - $150 for a week, although if he brings a friend, then they each get to go for $35. BUT. Yeah, you knew a "but" was coming. A - I don't actually think he'd be able to find a friend whose parents would let him or her go, and B - It's a VERY Christian camp. That's not a bad thing, of course...we are Christian. But we don't go to church; we have our own ideas and beliefs and don't necessarily feel a church is the right choice for us. And Kiddo hears "church" and somehow comes up with "equals boredom of epic proportions," even though neither hubby nor I have ever indicated this. In fact, we've been careful not to give him that impression, but I digress; I just think it'd be unfair to send him into that environment, both to him because he'd feel out of place, but also for the camp folks because he'd be coming in with this attitude already in place.
So it's back to Camps With Outrageous Costs - and while I think it would be a good experience for him, I fail to see why it should ever (ever, EVER) need to cost that much. Thoughts? Ideas? Things I am additionally failing to see? Point them out, please.
8. Someone at work had a Pampered Chef party a couple weeks ago, and I got my order today! Two stackable cooling racks...I am so in love with them. They are beautiful, and I needed them! I've only got one old, crummy one that my cookies keep falling through, and I've held off on buying new ones because I wanted these stackable ones. And now I finally have them. I am ridiculously happy with them, I can't wait to get home and open them. I think I'm going to try
kate's lemon ricotta cookies this weekend. And I want to do the one-bowl chocolate cake again, only this time I might just do it as cupcakes and bite-sized cupcakes. This time I'll know better than to dump the whole bowl of batter into one pan.
9. Christ, am I still talking? I had no idea I had this much to say!
10. I think I may also set some time aside this weekend and maybe try a few things from
15_minute_ficlets. I want to get back into writing a bit. It'll be mostly HP-themed, because that's where I write best, I think, but all the same-.
11. Everyone needs to ogle
these shoes.
Are they not FABULOUS? I want them.
OhmyGod, they have them in
open-toe sandal and
clog form, too:
Fluevog, you hold the key to all my best shoe dreams. My soul is feeling shoe-deprived.
12. OK, I think I'm out of stuff to say for the moment. I think the majority of this needs to go behind a cut, because HELLO, RUN-ON-AT-THE-MOUTH DISEASE. Or I suppose that'd be fingers, since I'm typing, yes? *snerk* Either way...I used Shel Silverstein's poem "Longmobile" as the cut text, in case anyone was wondering.
