fan Q&A with Psych writer

Jun 20, 2009 01:34

The psychwrites Twitter feed had an impromptu Q&A session yesterday morning.

Your Psych writer today is 'Red Phantom' and the upcoming 'Bollywood Homicide' mastermind Anupam Nigam...start asking now.
[Later, this image of Anupam "volunteering" to answer questions was tweeted.]

We're only gonna answer 10 or so...ONE RULE: No Juliet and Shawn are they/aren't they questions will be answered.

Here's how it will work: I will RT [re-tweet] the question then follow with the answer. LET'S GOOOOOOOO!

Q: Which one of the writers speaks German, then? The German bits in the show have me rolling on the floor...

A: I did the first fake German accent in Season 1. Our Writer Asst. Tory Walker who wrote Truer Lies speaks German.

Q: legendarcy -- is abigail coming back this season?

A: Yes, you will 100% see Abigail (Rachel Leigh Cook) this season.

Q: Will the characters ever have to travel far outside of Santa Barbara in any upcoming episodes?

A: Yes, in one upcoming episode they help solve a case in Canada.

Q: raelee -- Do you work backwards or forwards for Shawn visions, do you start w/clue or do you add them after you know what happens?

A: Most of the time forwards, usually we know what Shawn needs to learn in a scene, story wise, and then craft the SV's based on that.

Q: when writing psych are there spacific lines and moments you want to see each week, is there a lot of freedom for the actors?

A: It's a mix of both we need specific lines in scenes but we also give the actors room to improv and have fun.

Q: kshenk -- how many writers does psych consist of?

A: 7 including Steve Franks and James Roday

Q: destiny2711 -- what aspect of writing Psych do you enjoy most - the details of the cases or character-based stuff?

A: Personally I like coming up with a really cool clue or mystery and then finding out how to make it fun.

Q: SmallWaldo -- If you could write and shoot a crossover with any show in production, which would it be and why?

A: Law and Order, I would like to see how S & G's antics play with the ultra serious cops and lawyers. Plus we get to see our guys in NY.

Q: I love listening to the commentary on the DVDs (I'm one of the 8). Funniest stuff ever! Are there tracks for all of Season 3?

A: There will be both podcasts and commentaries for the majority of the episodes. Which were really fun to record.

Q: taylorLALYT248 -- How do you come up with the endings for "Gus, don't be a..."?

A: Sometimes it's the writers and sometimes it James Roday doing improv.

Q: PeepingNee -- i can shorten my Q to - in "Red Phantom" was George Takei your first choice in guest star?

A: Yes the script was written with him in mind, I couldn't have been happier. George was a great sport about having fun with his image.

Q: bigratsgoboom -- What is the smoke monster?

A: We at Psych believe he is Dharma initiative experiment gone terribly awry...or it's Jacob being pissed. (best. question. ever!)

Q: iSpensey -- favorite joke from the first 2 seasons? or a favorite scene?

A: The way Wally spoke in 'Zero To Murder...' Also in 'From Earth to...' when Shawn pops up off the bench on the pier to interrupt Gus date
